Dear ,

Welcome to the October edition of the Japan Travel Trade Newsletter for 2025.

13th October marks the final day of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Official statistics have not been released just yet but so far over 21 million visitors (domestic and international) have attended.

This month's newsletter is packed full of great information and updates including koyo (autumn leaves) travel inspiration, the upcoming JNTO Luxury webinar registration, and a write up of a regional town that truly resonated with me in a recent fam trip to Japan.

While the official 2025 JNTO forecast is coming soon, you can check out the Japan Weather Association’s outlook (Japanese only), which JNTO uses as it’s based on Japan Meteorological Agency data. The Japan Meteorological Corporation also produces an independent English-language forecast.

Nestled within Shikotsu-Toya National Park, the Jozankei area transforms into a tapestry of red, gold and amber each October. Jozankei Tourist Association has highlighted five places to witness this magical transformation with accompanying bus services for easy access. Click here for more information.

Did you know that the beautiful Lake Suwa in the city of Suwa, Nagano Prefecture, inspired the incredible lake scenes in the worldwide hit anime Your Name? Easily accessible by express trains from larger cities like Nagoya and Tokyo, Suwa is also home to the spiritual Suwa Taisha Shrine, skiing, hiking and trekking in the Yatsugatake Mountains, a huge fireworks festival in August, multiple sake distilleries, and more.

A highlight from my recent trip to Suwa was the Osuwa Daiko Taiko drum experience. It's an authentic look into taiko drumming culture with access to not only a drumming lesson with a taiko master, but also a rare insight into how the taiko drums are traditionally made (forewarning: it's not for the faint hearted!).
