A Perfect Spring.....
Hooray! It’s official, spring is here! We’ve got what I would call the perfect spring going on this year, lots of cool days and no late spring freezes. It’s a gardeners dream.
Life at the nursery hums along nicely. We’ve still got lots of fruit trees and a ton of spring color for the flower lovers. The vegetable benches are still loaded with spring and summer vegetables, many heirloom tomatoes, squash and peppers.

Dan Miller's wildflower Starts | We’ve got a cool collection of Dan Millers Florida native wildflower starts again this year, coreopsis, purple coneflowers, stokes asters, and catchfly to name just a few...
The color benches are full of a wide selection of 4 inch perennials, this is a great way to add color to your butterfly gardens without spending much money or digging very large holes, guara, lantana, salvias and butterfly bush plus much.. much.. more…
The gardens and orchards are busting out in full color. The citrus orchard will be in full bloom for the next couple of weekends.
|
Citrus in Bloom | Come smell the scent of thousands of citrus blooms. It’s an event you can’t miss, if you’ve ever stood in a citrus orchard in high spring you’ll know what I mean, it is an INTOXICATING scent experience. Many other strange looking fruit blooms are doing their thing now, olives, persimmons, pomegranates….
The wildflower plantings around the nursery are starting to show color and the promise of a good year.
We’ve got a great line up of workshops for April, vegetable gardening, canning and freezing, and beekeeping classes…. Like I said, it’s a perfect spring!

Edible Veggies in the Garden |
If you’re the type of person who loves simple pleasures like picking tree-ripened fruit or gathering homegrown veggies to create the salad of your dreams, then the edible landscape gives you a chance to do both: create an unusual distinctive landscape while also providing a bounty of more flavorful and nutritious fruits and vegetables than is obtainable from the grocery store.
Edible landscaping is not a new concept. In fact, most of our landscapes that hail back in time are built around the beauty and functionality of edible plants.

Olive, Jelly Palm and Persimmon | Fruits, herbs, and vegetable plants were the mainstay of the 1800’s cottage garden. These loose, cheerful gardens were full of fruiting pears, apples, and peaches, borders and hedgerows of blueberries and blackberries, and beds of herbs, vegetables, and old-fashioned flowers, all adding to the charm and uniqueness of a country garden. Scent Gardens
Historically gardens were filled as much with scent as with flowers. Favorite plants have been selected for bigger and longer flowering times, but their scents have been neglected in the process. Scentless gardens would have bemused the Greeks and Romans and amazed the Victorians.

Sweetly Scented Banana Shrubs | Heirloom plants often have the strongest scents. Talk with your grandmother about the plants she grew up with and chances are that she'll talk about the scent of star jasmine or tea olive blowing through the house, or the four o'clocks her mother put under her bedroom window. Memories of scents are often the strongest we have, with the sultry scent of gardenia always associated with the start of hot summer days. Another advantage of these heirloom plants is their toughness and ease of cultivation. Read more.....
