'Save the Great Indian Bustard'                                            campaign

The Corbett Foundation, along with Sancuary Nature Foundation and Conservation India, have launched ‘Save the Great Indian Bustard’ campaign to save this iconic grassland species which is critically endangered. With fewer than 150 individuals remaining in the world, distributed across the fragmented grasslands of Rajasthan and Gujarat, the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) is terribly tethered to the edge of extinction

Among the anthropogenic pressures, the overhead power transmission lines pose the biggest threat to the species. According to Wildlife Institute of India, an estimated 18 Great Indian Bustards are likely to die every year in the Thar Desert alone due to collisions with power lines!

We need your support to urge India’s Ministry of Power to lay the transmission lines running across the GIB habitats underground. Please endorse our online petition and help prevent the extinction of this species.

Sign the petition now before its too late!

“If the GIB goes extinct, it would be first species in our conservation history that will be deemed to have been ALLOWED TO GO EXTINCT, as we knew the causes and had the werewithal to prevent the extinction, but lacked the will and the gumption to do the needful.” Dr M K Ranjitsinh

"Extinction, or losing a species forever, is a profound, irreversible event. Great Indian Bustard, which was once close to becoming out national bird, is precariously close to this point. Today, fatal collisions with transmission lines are its biggest threat. It will be shame if we fail to conserve the species despite knowing how to do it." - Dr Sutirtha Dutta, Wildlife Institute of India

Now, it is up to us to reverse this...!

Unless urgent steps to underground power lines over GIB habitats in Rajasthan and Kutch, Gujarat are taken, the species is likely go extinct by 2020...
Help us prevent this by signing the petition at  http://www.conservationindia.org/campaigns/gib2018

"It will be international shame and disappointment if India is unable to prevent the extinction of the Great Indian Bustrard, despite all the scientific know-how and financial resources available. Unfortunately, this 'Great Indian' bird didn't receive early support from our politicians, policy-makers, corporate sector and general public. This is our last chance to prevent its extinction." - Kedar Gore, Director, The Corbett Foundation
Don't let it be a #GreatIndianShame!
