REFORESTING LAND IN THE KPC AND BANDHAVGARH-SANJAY-DUBRI CORRIDOR
With 5000 saplings of local tree species being nurtured at TCF’s Community Conservation Centre at the outskirts of Kanha Tiger Reserve, TCF launched Phase I of an initiative to reforest degraded forest areas in the Kanha-Pench and Bandhavgarh-Sanjay-Dubri forest corridors. In collaboration with the forest department, local communities will actively participate in planting and nurturing the saplings, gradually developing degraded landscapes into lush green forests.
MITIGATING HUMAN-WILDLIFE CONFLICT

TCF's efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflict continues, as financial support was provided to two forest guards of the Ramangar Forest Division, injured while on duty through an encounter with a tiger. This forest area, adjacent to Corbett Tiger Reserve, has a high tiger density, and chance encounters such as this are not uncommon. TCF works closely with the forest department to keep the peace between humans and the wild - a crucial feature of  wildlife conservation!

CATTLE CULTURE PROGRAMME AT BANDHAVGARH

TCF Bandhavgarh started a Cattle Culture Programme in the village of Rakhi, to reduce the heavy dependence of domestic cattle on the forest for grazing as well as conflict-generating encounters with wild predators. TCF distributed high-yielding milch cattle to villagers, mutually agreeing that the cattle will not be grazed in the forest. TCF has made provisions for quality fodder for the milch cattle by installing a hydroponic machine that can produce 125 kg of green fodder daily, as well as by helping villagers grow green fodder in their fields. TCF is grateful to Exodus Travels, UK and the Friends of Conservation, UK for their generous support!

FENCING OPEN WELLS IN BANDHAVGARH
With the successful fencing of 200 open wells along the core zone of‪ ‎Bandhavgarh‬ Tiger Reserve, TCF initiated fencing work on 40 more open wells along the core zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve with the kind support of Big Cat Rescue, a well known charity based in the US. The open wells (without any wall) are like death traps for wild animals venturing out of the forest in search of water especially in the summer months. Fencing of such open wells prevents accidental deaths of wild animals. TCF is also grateful to Friends of Conservation, UK and Exodus Travels Ltd., for their support in the first phase of this project.

TCF A PARTNER IN THE CORBETT WILDLIFE FEST 2016

TCF was a partner NGO in the Corbett Wildlife Fest 2016, organized by ‘Himalayan Wildlife Foundation’. The festival aimed at bringing together conservation-minded stakeholders on to one platform. The event included walkathons, drawing competitions for school children, conferences and lunch preparations by a women’s Self-Help Group (SHG) ‘Durga’, beneficiaries of TCF’s sustainable livelihoods programme ‘PUKAAR’. TCF also set up a stall at which products made by beneficiaries of the PUKAAR sustainable livelihoods programme such as ‘Prakriti’ pickles, handmade bags, cane fruit-baskets, bamboo showpieces, local handicrafts and more were showcased for sale.

WORLD NO-TOBACCO DAY WITH TCF

On World No-Tobacco Day, TCF Bandhavgarh and Corbett organized  awareness talks with the people of forest dwelling communities, speaking to them about the ills of tobacco use and addiction, as part of TCF's programme to develop healthy communities to live better and sustainable, conservation-friendly lifestyles
