ETHICAL WILLS in the Digital Age, Kohelet-Style
Saturday, January 16, 2016, 7:30 pm-9:30 pm at Beit Kohelet
Coordinator: Deanne Kapnik

Ethical Wills have been a part of Jewish life and culture for over 3,000 years. Come learn more about what makes an ethical will and how much potential they hold for individuals and families wanting to make a conscious contribution to their legacy through their values.

We will screen examples of our current work and begin the process of crafting an ethical will.

Deanne Kapnik and Sari Horovitz have worked on the Mizel Museum Community Narratives Project and have now formed an independent creative services group, The Narratives Studio, through which they are producing documentaries and assisting people to develop ethical wills in a digital format.

SHABBAT SHIRAH

Debra Flitter, Robyn Jacobs and Bunny Wosk hope you'll join in a festive Shabbat honoring the anniversary of their Kohelet womens' Bat Mitzvah (1993!) on Shabbat Shirah, January 23rd. Besides reading from the Torah, they'll sponsor a special Kiddish lunch in honor of Tu B' Shevat, supplementing the potluck lunch
NACH YOMI CYCLE

Paralleling the 100 year old Daph Yomi (reading a page a day of Talmud), the Orthodox Union’s fifth Nach Yomi cycle – reading a chapter of Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings) each day for two years – began on December 17. The project’s intention is to read the entire Jewish Bible in two years. Nach starts with books that are heavy on plot so you can still catch up easily.

You can simply read a chapter each day or use the OU’s online resources:

Many Kohelet folks are planning visits to Israel, and I want to ask you to stop in at our project for children living near the Gaza border.
I, Alan Brandt, Raz Arbel, and Hazel and Herzl Melmed started Biking for Kids for Under Fire several years ago to provide a therapeutic outlet for children living under tremendous tensions and danger. It has grown to be quite extensive and with Israeli residents running these bike clubs for local, safe outings. You will see signs saying “Thank you Denver”!, and you can talk to people in Denver who have visited one of the sites (Leanna H. and family just did an extended family Bat Mitzvah visit there).
