SAD NEWS

Matthew Back's sister, Gini Rosen, age 79, passed away on August 13.  Originally from New York, Gini lived her adult life in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, her husband's hometown, where shiva took place.  She and her husband were major patrons of their congregation and funded numerous Jewish charities and university programs.  In recognition of her charitable work, Gini was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters from Queens University in Kingston.  Kohelet members may remember her from her visits to Denver; on one such visit, she even joined us on a retreat at the Ranch Camp.  For Matthew she was a treasured sibling.  For Aaron and David, Matthew and Susan's sons, Gini served the role of aunt and honorary grandmother.  She will be missed.

KOHELET HIGH HOLY DAYS 5779 – Sign Up Now

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are early this year!  Rosh Hashanah begins Sundown on Sunday, September 9. We look forward to seeing you during this time of personal reflection and prayer for a positive New Year for yourself, our congregation and the larger community.

This year because of the unavailability of some of our fabulous, tried-and-true service leaders (due to illness) Kohelet is changing its usual format in some ways and trying out a few creative approaches. For example, this year in lieu of Erev Rosh Hashanah services, we are organizing holiday dinners for groups of Kohelet members on Sunday, September 9. Various members will host, and everyone else will be invited to a specific home for a pot luck Erev Rosh Hashanah meal with all the honey-sweet fixings.  Of course, you are not obligated to attend, but we hope you will!  We think these festive Kohelet dinners will be a wonderful way to begin the holiday in our community!  Stay tuned for your invitation.

Another creative touch in 2018 will take place on the second day of Rosh Hashanah, when we will use an alternative mahzor for a meaningful, participatory service.

Our much-loved features will remain -- the singing, the sermons, the Torah and haftorah readings, the community meals, the camaraderie -- to enable everyone to enjoy Kohelet's typically warm and spiritual High Holy Days observance.

To avoid having to remember to  sign up, why not do it now and cross this one task off your to-do list?  And signing up now will help us plan for meals, babysitting, etc.

High Holy Days information is listed below.  Please watch the Kohelet newsletter and our website for more information..

With Our Warmest Wishes for the New Year,
Kohelet High Holy Days Committee

NOTE FROM KOHELET PRESIDENTS

It's Summer!  Time for vacations, travel, the great outdoors and.... Kohelet.

We know that many of you are out of town but we also need to ensure we have a Saturday minyan, so we need you!  We have members saying Kaddish plus a core group of others who help make up the minyan.  Please try to make every effort to attend services to ensure a minyan.  Plus, there are a plethora of service leadership and Torah discussion openings, so it's a great time to hone your skills!

Likewise, if you are saying Kaddish, please email Dan or myself at least a few days in advance so we can make the calls to recruit a minyan.

Thanks in advance,
Joel and Dan
