ANNOUNCEMENTS

LIGHTS, LAUGHTER, AND LEVITY

Join your Kohelet community on Zoom on Sunday, December 13th, 6:00 p.m. as we celebrate Chanukah together.  We'll each light our own menorahs online as we usher in our festive party with songs with Jonathan, a fun and intriguing online board game that anyone can play, and a l'chaim with spirits either hard or soft.  BYOL (Bring your own latkes if you wish.)

While not necessary, it would be good to get an RSVP to know how many to expect for the game.

Hope you can join us!  Just let us know if you'll be there (or show up last minute, which would also be fine.)

Be a mensch and don't miss out on the merriment over menorahs and music in honor of the Maccabees.

Your Chanukah Committee,

Susan Berson (bersons2@comcast.net)

DATE CHANGE FOR BOOK STUDY GROUP WITH DANIEL HETTLEMAN

We are moving the start date of our book study group with Daniel Hettleman to December 19, immediately after services. Amazon has given us a longer shipping time than we anticipated. This will give more people a chance to acquire the book and read it prior to beginning our study. We will be studying  The Dignity of Difference by the late Rabbi Sacks. Everyone is invited to join us.

PSALMS
We have been reading Psalms during Shabbat services. We continue here sequentially with excerpts and commentary.

David writes this in his old age recounting his confidence  in Hashem after all tribulations have passed.

Psalm 18:
God is my strength, may rock and fortress in whom I take refuge and who has saved me from my enemies.
When in my distress I call upon HaShem for my salvation and my voice will always be heard.
HaShem has thundered in the heavens and with arrows has scattered my enemies. God saved me from rightly foes even when I felt overpowered.
My righteousness was repaid befitting the cleanliness of my hands. God is devoted to the wholehearted man.
The humble nation is saved and haughty eyes are destroyed; God girds me with strength as I overtake my foes.
The wicked are subjugated as I am rescued me from my enemies.
Therefore I acknowledge you among the nations and to your name I will sing.

David proclaims his perception of the hand of God that has guided him during all of his long life.
He announces he will become the singer of  Gods praises for all of humanity and for all times to come.
