PSALMS
We have been reading psalms at Kohelet services and will continue sequentially with these brief excerpts and comments.

Psalm 5
David continues his prayers to God in the morning asking protection from his enemies saying:
“To You alone do I pray. You do not desire wickedness and no evil sojourns with You. Through Your kindness I will enter Your house.
Guide me in Your righteousness and make the path before me straight. All who take refuge in You are happy and will sing joyously forever.
You provide shelter blessing the righteous and enveloping  them with favor.

When beset by enemies, the righteous person prays early for guidance to alleviate suffering and for the freedom to to act correctly without distraction.

TISHA B'AV
Wed., July 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Tisha B'Av begins on Wednesday evening, July 29. It marks the destruction of the First and Second Temples and many other tragedies in Jewish history. It is a fast day and the lowest point in our calendar. It brings us hope, however, because from there our outlook improves. Kohelet will be observing Tisha B'Av by reading the book of Eicha (Lamentations) followed by a discussion. You will receive a Zoom link on Tuesday, July 28. Please try to be there.

TORAH DISCUSSIONS

The first time I led a Torah discussion I was terrified. I was sure that I knew nothing and all the knowledgeable people in the congregation would put me to shame. That never happened. Instead, I delved into a parsha and learned a tremendous amount, and I had an amazing amount of help and support from those more knowledgeable than I. It was an incredible opportunity for growth. We have numerous openings for Torah discussion leaders  between now and the Holidays. You don't need to be a Judaicic scholar to do this. All you need is the desire to stretch yourself a bit. Anyone in the congregation will be willing to help you if you ask. If you have led  a Torah discussion in the past, please consider signing up again. If you haven't, please consider giving it a try. You can sign up on the website. Also please contact Judith Cohen (
cohenjudithx@gmail.com).
