Dr. Tawfik Hamid, whom many Kohelet members will remember from his prior Denver talks and his visit for Shabbat services at Kohelet, will be speaking in early November in Denver at several community gatherings.
The author of Inside Jihad: How Radical Islam Works; Why It Should Terrify Us; How to Defeat It, Dr. Hamid is himself a former terrorist.  Currently, Dr. Hamid plays a leadership role in the movement to reform Islam.  He is a powerful and fascinating speaker.

We're excited to let you know about Semplice's upcoming concert, on Saturday November 16 at 7:30 pm! “From the Temple to the Dance Floor” is a journey through the music of Jewish composers from the 15th through the 18th century, and then forward into the Klezmer tradition of Eastern Europe. This is a reprise of our 2016 and 2018 concerts, finally offered in central Denver, at Kohelet (428 S. Forest St, Denver 80246). Please come even if you have seen it before - we promise there will be new twists! Tickets are $18 (or give what you can afford) at our website or at the door.

Hope to see you there!

Kohelet is partnering with many other organizations to promote November as Clean Speech Month.

Clean Speech Colorado is not just about what we say. It’s about who we are.

The Jewish guidelines for communication are our timeless plan for how people should live with one another. They are the tools to remove anger, bitterness, and jealousy from our hearts and to eliminate strife, hurt, and divisiveness from our world.

When we think about words, we realize that they, more than any other human faculty, define us. What we say and how we say it is who we are. Angry, hurtful words define an angry, hurtful person. Kind, considerate words define a kind, considerate person.  The term lashon hara refers to speech that is hurtful or harmful.  Here are some resources to help us focus our attention on lashon hara and on aspects of how we communicate:

Download the PDF booklet of your 30-day clean speech practice for many helpful insights regarding lashon hora.  For example, "daily to-do’s" such as these:

-Listen to your own words today. Start to develop an ear for the kinds of things you typically say.

-When you talk to people today, watch their faces to see their reactions to your words.

-During one conversation today, acknowledge an opinion with which you don’t agree.

-Today, when something negative about someone crosses your mind, quickly think of something positive about them.

Thurs., Nov. 28 at 8:00 a.m.

Kohelet will once again be participating in the preparation and delivery of ~1500 meals for the homeless on Thanksgiving morning at Lowry Community Church (855 Yosemite).  We plan to arrive at 8am on November 28.  The work is usually finished between 11 and 12.  You don't have to stay till the end, and you can arrive late. Those who participated last year universally found the experience to be rewarding. Please let Bennett ( know if you plan to join us--he will keep everyone posted on any last minute details or changes.
