ANNOUNCEMENTS

PSALMS
We have been reading Psalms at Kohelet Shabbat services. We continue sequentially with excerpts and commentary.

Psalm 16:
"We recognize that our portion has been allotted to us by God who is with us to the grave guiding us at all times.
We have no claim to this  benefit of your teaching and are fortunate in your ways.
Sorrows multiply for those seeking other sources. Hashem guides my destiny and I receive your teaching in a pleasant place.
You advise me and spur my intellect. I shall not falter and I will therefore rejoice and rest in confidence. You make known to me the path of life and the delights. You provide at all times."

We are comfortable in our humility and have clarity of vision of this gift from God. Powerful tools are provided by a Creator  which provide our ability to affirm life.

IN THE BEGINNING

Parsha Bereishit brings to mind not only the beginning of the world, and the beginning of another year of Torah study, but also, the beginning of our own small world of Kohelet. What is the story of Kohelet? How did Kohelet begin? Who were the founders? When did you join Kohelet? Why?  How? What was your search process, if any? Please contribute to the Kohelet story by answering these questions. You can either post directly to the link below, or, send your responses in an email to jeff_zhuk@yahoo.com.

JOIN THE COMMUNITY OF SLACKERS!

Steve Cardin has set up an account on the app Slack for the Kohelet community. Slack is a free app you can download onto your phone or computer. It can serve as a chat room or forum for announcements or notifications for Kohelet members and friends. It will not replace the Newsletter or email. It's just one more tool we can use to stay in touch with one another. Many people have already joined. You can only join by invitation, so if you wish to join, please email Misty, (davidson.misty@gmail.com) and she will send you an invitation.

CLEAN SPEECH

November is clean speech month. Last year Kohelet, along with 60 other local Jewish organizations, participated in this initiative started by Rabbi Leban of The Jewish Experience. Rabbi Leban has expanded the curriculum this year to address how words can help or hurt, and  why how we say what we say matters. We will be offering some virtual congregational activities in this area during November. More to come.

SAMMY WEISER'S BAR MITZVAH
Sat., Nov. 7

Sammy Weiser will celebrate his bar mitzvah on November 7. It will take place at Beit Kohelet with only family and Ed Davidson, as the camera man, physically present.  It will be available to everyone else via Zoom.  The Wald/Weiser family is expecting 150 Zoomers to attend.  For that reason, you will be muted upon entry.  You will also be asked to turn off your camera.  With such a large number of guests, this will help preserve the bandwidth and enable everyone to celebrate with Sammy.  You will receive the link the day before, as usual.  Thank you for understanding.
