JANET BRANDT UPDATE

Beloved Kohelet community,

As I know many of you learned on Saturday, my mom (Janet Brandt, for those of you who don't know me) is currently planning to move to Maryland (the DC suburbs) to be closer to me and my family.  This move is scheduled for sometime after Thanksgiving, hopefully before New Years.

As I am sure you can understand, there are a lot of moving parts, and a lot of unpredictability.  In the meantime we are working to provide mom with a stable and predictable experience while she continues to live independently with Rafi.

If you have any questions, or would like to help out over the coming months, please reach out to Reuben Reuben.Brandt@gmail.com, who is coordinating support for her in Denver.

We remain grateful for the support and help of the Kohelet community over the past couple of years.  In lieu of a party, we think it is best that people make a personal visit to Janet, and avoid the topic of her departure as much as possible.  She's quite confused about the whole thing, and discussion of it upsets her.  And of course, once she is here, if you find yourself in the DC region with some extra time, we would love to see you, and I'm sure mom would so enjoy having a visitor from home.

Shana Tovah,

Rachel (Ariel) Brandt Lautman
THINKING OF TATANYA

Sadly, our friend and former member Tatanya Hamermesh, daughter of Ken Hamermesh and Lynn Coleman, is undergoing serious medical treatment in New York City.  We remember Tanya fondly, and she is in our thoughts and prayers.  To follow her progress and to perhaps help her out, please check this website:  https://sites.google.com/view/tatanya
BRETT LOCKSPEISER IN THE WASHINGTON POST

Brett Lockspeiser's outstanding work on the founding and development of  Sepharia is chronicled in this WashPost article.

Dad Les gives additional background:   As most of you know, Brett received his first Jewish education under the tutelage of members of Kohelet.  While at Google, he helped to digitize the archives of the New York Times.  This was a major accomplishement over 10 years ago.  On his own, it took him one year to ride the code for Sefaria!.  Now, the project employs seven full time engineers, five of whom are in Israel.  The task of obtaining the rights to the online version of the Steinsaltz Talmud took several years of negotiation.
