SHABBAT SERVICE OCTOBER 8
PARSHA VAYEILECH

SERVICE LEADER:
Neiel Baronberg

OUR SEASON OF JOY

The season of reawakening is upon us. Our ability as human beings to look inward, to see deficits and know we have the tools for renewal is our greatest gift.

We announce this to ourselves and to others and we move beyond ambivalence and hesitation and say there is very little to stand in the way. The Kohelet Board
extends our profound good wishes to all our members and may new pathways and new pipelines allow transformation, new awareness and happy enthusiasm for the year ahead.

HIGH HOLY DAYS

Kohelet’s Rosh Hashanah services were wonderful, and we anticipate another warm, uplifting, communal experience on Yom Kippur as well. Please join us! The Kol Nidre service begins at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, followed by Yom Kippur services on October 12, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Childcare will be available on the 12th from 10:00 to 2:00 and from 4:15-7:30. We will enjoy a delicious catered break-the-fast around 7:30. Parking is available in the Augustana Lutheran lot on Dakota Street.

.

SUCCOT

On Sunday Oct 16th at 10:30 a.m. we will once again put up the Kohelet Succah.

All members and children are invited to attend what has always been a fun and lively (and sometimes spatially challenging) construction effort.
Children are encouraged to bring items (gourds etc) to help decorate our Succah
Coffee and donuts provided. Be there with gloves and strong back and a good disposition.
Please bring schach (best are evergreen branches).
On the following Wednesday Oct 19th at 6 pm, we will have our traditional Kohelet ceremony-potluck in the succah. All invited.
Please participate,
Neiel

SUCCAH HOP

There are many special things to happen before the beginning of Succot, but it is never too early to start thinking about “this time of our joy.” As Dr. Seuss wrote: So build a Succah one and all, make it large or make it small. Succah rules are short and snappy, enjoy Succot, rejoice be happy.” As in past years, there will be a sukkah at Kohelet for all to use at any time during the days and evenings of Succot. Alternatively or in addition, many Kohelet people choose to put up their own succah. In either case, we would like to encourage inviting Kohelet guests to share this wonderful experience with you. Please email to Joan B. if you would like to be invited to a succah dinner, lunch, or tea or be a host at your home or both. Let me know the dates of your availability during Oct. 16-21., and I will make a roster of hosts and guests and dates. You can start sending your info. now and until Oct. 10th to me at joanyaffa@gmail.com.

SIMCHAT TORAH: REJOICING WITH THE TORAH

Monday, October 24
6:00 p.m. pizza and dessert (and some alcohol as required by tradition)
7:00 p.m. children’s parade and celebration
Please join us in the meaningful activity of watching the entire Torah rolling in front of us. Then live music, singing, and dancing.
Bring a dessert to share and $5 for an individual, $10 for a couple, and $15 for a family to pay for the pizza. RSVP to cohenjudithx@gmail.com.

REQUEST FROM IO LOECHELL

Io Loechell is seeking a few people who would like to participate in a short (5-10 min) Kirtan sequence at her Bat Mitzvah Nov.19. This would consist of chanting and percussion instruments. We would have a rehearsal some time beforehand, but it would be informal and can even be done from your seats. If you want to volunteer an instrument (no strings or wind), that would be great, even if you don’t wish to participate. Please email Io at ioloechell@gmail.com.

KEVAH

Kevah is rolling out in Denver this fall with educational opportunities for groups that wish to engage. The Kohelet Board has agreed that education opportunities presented to us should be explored. Julie Lieber, representing Kevah has made her presentation before the Board and also came to Kohelet on Shabbat Sept 24th and offered a brief presentation to our members.

Essentially, a group would be formed with a minimum of 8 people which would choose a topic for the Kevah leader-teacher to pursue. Kevah already has many qualified teachers in Denver ready to begin teaching a variety of Judaica subjects. Kevah does all of the organizing and collection of fees for this program. At this time the cost is $360pp/year for monthly sessions. Reductions in fees are possible if requested. If you are interested in hosting or joining a group already forming please contact Julie who is coordinating Kevah in Colorado at jlieber@kevah.org and look at www.kevah.org for further information.
