Airfield Safety Bulletin - Rain
Rain is forecasted throughout the week at LAX. Please remember to use extra caution while driving around the airfield. The slick surface conditions are also expected on the streets and highways. When it rains or the pavement is wet:
  • Slow Down
  • Brake Gradually
  • Avoid Sharp Turns
  • Increase your Distance Behind Other Vehicles
Safety Vest

Always ensure your safety vest is ontop of any rain gear or sweaters/jackets. Alternatively, you can wear approved reflective rain gear!

Tires

Check your tires to ensure you have enough tread. At least 4/32" of tread is recommended for rainy weather (See more below).

Headlights

Turn on your lights (headlights/tail lights) whenever it rains, even during daylight hours.

More on Tires: Check your tires to ensure you have enough tread. While a minimum of 4/32" of tread is recommended for rainy weather, that may not be enough in wet weather according to Consumer Reports. Tire tread at 4/32" can decrease your ability to control the vehicle by 33% and increase your stopping distance by 87 additional feet.

Remember that solid tires (often found on GSE) have less traction "grip" and are prone to skidding and slipping in wet weather!
