Airfield Safety Bulletin
Seasonal Weather
As the time, weather and seasons change, please remember to use extra caution while driving around the airfield. Winter can bring less daylight, higher winds and rain. When it rains or the pavement is wet:
  • Slow Down
  • Brake Gradually
  • Avoid Sharp Turns
  • Turn on your Lights
Remember that rain also brings slick surface conditions not just at the airport, both also on the streets and highways.
High Winds

Brakes on all equipment must be set whenever parked. There have been two recent incidents where GSE parking brakes were not set, resulting in a severe employee injury, and GSE almost entering the aircraft movement area.

Tires

Inspect your tires prior to driving. Bald or worn tires should not be driven on as they can cause hydroplaning, skidding and loss of control. Bald tires are also more likely to suddenly failure (blowout) while driving.

FOD
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) is capable of causing serious damage to aircraft and injury to personnel. Always make sure cart are kept clean, curtains properly secured and cargo doors.
