"International Womens History Month"
Featuring Female Ukrainian Heroes
|
|
|
Celebrating Womens History Month 2022 is especially meaningful for me as the Founder of LS Credentialing Services and AECredentialing.com. I am also the descendant of Ukrainian, Polish and Austrian ancestors. So, this month we are proud to recognize historic and contemporary Ukrainian women of STEM, medicine, the visual, performing and literary arts as we honor and value democracy and freedom.

Did you know the Ukraine's share of women in science is almost twice as higher (46%) as the world's average? The Ukraine has a long history of feminism. During the 1920s, one of the world's biggest feminist organizations was founded in modern western Ukraine. It was called
Ukrainian Women's Union. As of 2010, there were several women's rights groups active in Ukraine including
Feminist Ofenzyva and
Ukrainian Women's Union.
FEMEN the most active women's rights group in Kyiv was officially closed in 2013 because the leadership feared for their lives and freedom. Following are just a sample of outstanding Ukrainian women and their discoveries and contributions, often despite the overwhelming odds against them.

Olga Kobylianska (1863-1942)
The feminist movement in Ukraine would not have been possible without Ukrainian writer Olga Kobylianska. Through novels and stories she was the first to embrace feminist ideas in Ukranian literature and to raise the theme of women's emancipation. Today, you can visit her memorial museum in the house where she lived. |
