Liberty apple
Liberty apple
Botanical Plant Name:
Malus domestica ‘Liberty’
This week’s featured plant can take the phrase “as American as apple pie” to the next level. Liberty apple features medium to large, slightly flattened fruits with yellow skin that’s heavily streaked with red. The fine-textured, yellowish flesh of this dessert or cooking apple is crisp, juicy and pleasingly tart. The vigorous, rounded tree is said to be exceptionally disease resistant and features fragrant flowers in spring and ripened fruit in early fall. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and should be planted near another early-blooming apple tree for maximum fruit production.
