Main Street Reconstruction Starts July 17
Phase I will involve Main Street from
Water Street to Grand Avenue.
Details are available on the Village's
website.
This reconstruction will improve the aesthetic of the Downtown by :
- Resurfacing of Main Street for the first time since the early 1990s
- Creation of six concrete bump outs which will add to existing sidewalk space and enlarge outdoor seating areas
- Creation of 12 parallel parking stalls on the Main Street Bridge
- Striping of three new crosswalks with shorter crossing distances
- Installation of raised tree planters and potted annual planters will add greenery and soften the appearance of the street
- Addition of new street furnishings including benches, bicycle racks, and trash cans
How will traffic be impacted?
- Starting Monday, July 17 –
Main Street will be closed between Water Street and Grand Avenue to west-bound traffic which will be re-routed north along Water Street, west along Roosevelt Road, and then south along Grand Avenue back to Main Street.
-
Starting Monday, July 10 – Main Street will be closed between Appleton Avenue and Pilgrim Road to heavy truck traffic. Trucks will be rerouted in both directions along a route which includes Pilgrim Road, Menomonee Avenue, and Appleton Avenue.
How will parking be impacted?
- Starting Monday, July 17, on-street parking spaces along Main Street between Grand Avenue and Water Street will be unavailable for the duration of the project.
- Other street parking will not be affected.
- All public parking lots will be available for use.
- Download the
Public Parking Map.
How will construction affect pedestrian traffic?
- Sidewalks will remain open throughout construction. However, cross walks may not be accessible at all times and pedestrians may have to cross where there are opportunities to cross.
What Construction signage will be provided?
- Construction signs and truck re-routing will be going up the week of July 10.
- “Businesses Open” signs will be purchased and placed on Main Street on both ends of the construction site.
- Parking signs will be posted on temporary poles to direct traffic to public lots.
- A banner will fly over Main Street with information regarding the reconstruction.
