Greetings colleagues:
As you may know, the federal eviction moratorium ends July 31, 2021. With this date approaching, many households may be worrying about how they will pay rent, with other households who have already lost housing wondering what assistance might be available to help them get back into housing. One available option is emergency rental assistance.
The federal government is conducting an all-out push to make sure tenants and landlords take advantage of the historic funding made available via the American Rescue Plan for emergency rental assistance to help cover rent, utilities, and other housing costs and keep people in their homes. Emergency rental assistance funds also may be used to support people experiencing homelessness who do not have a current rental obligation by paying for relocation assistance, prospective rent, security deposits, and temporary hotel accommodations (see the bullet at the bottom of the first page at https://home.treasury.gov/system/files/136/Treasury_Fact_Sheet_6-24-21.pdf or question 26 on page 12 at https://home.treasury.gov/system/files/136/ERA_FAQs_6-24-21.pdf). These programs are run locally, and right now emergency rental assistance is available across the country.
Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) debuts a new look up tool (consumerfinance.gov/renthelp) that allows renters and landlords to find information on rental assistance in their area. Given that many of you work with households who may need this assistance, we wanted to share this information with you and encourage you to share it with your networks and/or households in need. Please find attached a messaging toolkit that includes sample graphics and messages (in English and Spanish) that may be shared via email or social media, or printed for hard copy distribution.
Thanks in advance for your assistance in sharing this information with communities and people in need.
Best regards,
