The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) operates the U.S. Department of Education's technical assistance and information center for the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. NCHE is based at The SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). NCHE hosts this Homeless Education Mailing List to share information and resources with educators, service providers, and other interested stakeholders about meeting the educational needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. The ideas on this listserv do not necessarily reflect the views of NCHE, The SERVE Center, UNCG, or the U.S. Department of Education. ALL LOBBYING ACTIVITIES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Your friends at the National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) wish you the very best during this holiday season!

Also, you may have noticed our redesigned website at nche.ed.gov! Many of you participated in an online survey that informed this redesign and, while we'll have a few glitches I'm sure (all new websites do), we hope that you'll enjoy the simplified structure of the site. As always, if you have any trouble locating a resource, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Before we close out 2018, we also have a few new resources for you:

McKinney-Vento in ESSA State Plans: A Summary of Plans and Highlighted Practices. This resource provides a description of key elements of State plans, while highlighting practices and offering reviewers' recommendations for each requirement.
Crosswalk of Key Federally-funded Child and Youth Homeless Contacts. This excel file contains a crosswalk of Continuum of Care (CoC) primary contacts, Homeless Liaison (LEA) contact information for schools, and Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) providers.
Extracurricular Activities and Transportation for Students Experiencing Homelessness. This brief summarizes key provisions in the McKinney-Vento Act related to the removal of barriers to full school participation, including extracurricular activities, for students experiencing homelessness.
