Good afternoon colleagues:
Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the FY 2018 Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) at
https://www.hudexchange.info/programs/yhdp/. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 11:59:59 PM EDT. This round of YHDP funding is expected to fund up to 25 sites, 8 of which will be rural.
More About YHDP
- YHDP is an initiative designed to address systemic responses to youth homelessness and significantly reduce the number of youth experiencing homelessness in participating communities.
- YHDP applications must be submitted by a community’s Continuum of Care (CoC) Collaborative Applicant, but must be co-developed with a broad array of community partners, including a youth advisory board, a state or local child welfare agency, youth homelessness housing and service providers, local schools districts and/or state education departments, workforce development organizations, law enforcement, judges, corrections, and more.
- Communities that are awarded a YHDP grant must develop and implement a Coordinated Community Plan (CCP) to prevent and end youth homelessness. Included in HUD's list of CCP recommended partners are early care and education, school districts and state departments of education, and institutions of higher education.
- HUD will be holding a webinar on the NoFA on March 28, 2019 from 12:30-2:00 PM EDT. Further information and a registration link will be sent in a future message.
- To support the inclusion of education in CCPs, NCHE provides education-focused technical assistance to all YHDP communities.
NCHE encourages education partners and CoCs to work together to develop YHDP applications and ensure, along with a broad array of community partners, that young people experiencing homelessness have access to the education, housing, and other supports needed to make a sustainable exit from homelessness.
NCHE looks forward to working with Round 3 YHDP communities!
