The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) operates the U.S. Department of Education's technical assistance and information center for the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. NCHE is based at The SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). NCHE hosts this Homeless Education Mailing List to share information and resources with educators, service providers, and other interested stakeholders about meeting the educational needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. HUD Announces Round 3 YHDP Awardees

Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the 3nd cohort of Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program communities. Round 3 YHDP sites include:

  • Alaska Balance of State (rural)
  • Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
  • Baltimore, Maryland
  • Clackamas County, Oregon
  • Cook County, Illinois
  • Des Moines, Iowa
  • Erie and Niagara Falls Counties, New York
  • Fairfield County, Connecticut
  • Franklin County, Massachusetts (rural)
  • Gulf Coast, Mississippi (rural)
  • Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Northeast Wyoming (rural)
  • Ohio Balance of State (rural)
  • Palm Beach County, Florida
  • Prince George’s County, Maryland
  • San Antonio/Bexar County, Texas
  • Springfield, Massachusetts
  • State of Maine (rural)
  • State of Montana (rural)
  • Tucson, Arizona
  • Waco County, Texas (rural)
  • Washington, D.C.

YHDP communities are charged with developing and implementing a coordinated community plan to prevent and end youth homelessness. Under its contract with the U.S. Department of Education, NCHE provides technical assistance to YHDP communities to support the inclusion of education in community efforts. NCHE congratulates the Round 3 YHDP sites and looks forward to working with them moving forward. We will be reaching out to State Coordinators and local liaisons for the grantee sites in the near future to share information with you about opportunities to engage in the work.
