The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) operates the U.S. Department of Education's technical assistance and information center for the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. NCHE is based at The SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). NCHE hosts this Homeless Education Mailing List to share information and resources with educators, service providers, and other interested stakeholders about meeting the educational needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. The ideas on this listserv do not necessarily reflect the views of NCHE, The SERVE Center, UNCG, or the U.S. Department of Education. ALL LOBBYING ACTIVITIES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Dear colleagues:

 

For more than 20 years, the National Center for Homeless Education has worked to improve educational outcomes for children and youth experiencing homelessness.  At the core of this effort is an imperative focus on addressing the many inequities and challenges that our students confront daily.  Still, we must do better.

Our commitment to addressing racism, implicit bias, and injustice is only strengthened by current events, and we stand with the many partner organizations articulating a commitment to the same. We intend to work with our past, current, and future colleagues in the field for systemic change, knowing that no single organization is capable of addressing these issues alone.   

We will continue to reflect on our role as an organization, focusing our time and energy toward solutions to this ongoing crisis that has crippled our communities time and again.  We ask that you join us in this effort.
