NEW RESOURCES

Dear colleagues:

NCHE is pleased to announce the release of new NCHE resources!

The National Data Summary Report provides a summary of demographic data collected by the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. The report includes an examination of data collected for the 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 school years. Information on the number of students experiencing homelessness, their primary nighttime residence, subgroups of students, and race/ethnicity of students experiencing homelessness is included.

Voices Amplified is a special four-part NCHE series designed to elevate the McKinney-Vento Act, partners in the field working with families, children and youth experiencing homelessness, provide insights, challenges, experiences, as well as opportunities for learning, growth, and partnership in the field. The first in the series is a “foundation setting” session, while the remainder of the listening sessions build on this foundation to highlight particular student populations experiencing homelessness including LGBTQI+ students, Black students as well as pregnant, parenting and/or caregiving students who are experiencing homelessness.

Using Funds for Sustainable Impact discusses program sustainability with a focus on sustaining program impact, provides examples of activities with sustainable impact from across the county, and offers tips and strategies for developing activities that will sustain the impact of an LEAs homeless services when ARP-HCY funds are no longer available. The Guide includes a template that walks the user through a process to develop a sustainability plan. An additional note, the template on the landing page for the sustainability guide is a tool that can help you and your teams structure your thinking about how to sustain activities. First, the template contains some guiding questions about the currently funded or proposed activity. It also offers a matrix to think about which strategies may be most useful to employ to sustain impacts, including building staff capacity, improving infrastructure, developing fiscal partners, and seeking additional funding.

We will have additional resources related to the final months of ARP-HCY coming out during the next several weeks.

Best,
Jacinda Goodwin
