Dear colleagues:

NCHE is pleased to announce the release of new U.S.Department of Education and NCHE resources!

U.S. Department of Education Toolkit: Creating Inclusive and Nondiscriminatory School Environments for LGBTQI+ Students:

This resource includes examples of policies and practices that schools and districts can consider developing to support LGBTQI+ students and families. It also highlights Federal resources that schools, students, and parents may find helpful in working to ensure that all students are free to learn in an educational environment without harassment or other discrimination.

School Selection and Best Interest brief:

This NCHE brief provides an explanation for the provisions in the McKinney-Vento Act that local liaisons can implement when supporting students experiencing homelessness and their families in the school selection process; provides recommendations for local liaisons to help students and their families determine the school that is in their best interest to attend; and;  provides strategies for local liaisons to discuss school selection choices with young people and their families as well as to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible.

Systems Navigator Promising Practices webinar:

This NCHE webinar discusses utilizing System Navigators to provide the opportunity to expand the capacity for school districts to support students experiencing homelessness by navigating various systems that include housing, education, and workforce. In this webinar we will expand the awareness of the work of system navigators, funding opportunities to implement system navigators at the state and local levels, and how educators can collaborate with system navigators to support students experiencing homelessness.

Best,
Jacinda Goodwin
