Supporting English Learners (ELs) Experiencing Homelessness: An ARP-HCY Implementation Spotlight

The availability of ARP-HCY funding has increased the capacity of state education agencies (SEAs) and local education agencies (LEAs) to identify children and youth experiencing homelessness and provide them with wraparound services. SEAs and LEAs are required to contract and collaborate with community-based organizations to become part of a comprehensive system of support for children and youth experiencing homelessness who are members of historically underserved populations. In this NCHE webinar, we are joined by panelists from Bastrop Independent School District (BISD) and will explore the challenges faced by ELs experiencing homelessness, strategies for partnership and collaboration, and promising practices to sustain wraparound supports beyond the availability of ARP-HCY funding.

Social Media and Outreach Strategies Tipsheet (Part 1)

This NCHE resource is designed to illuminate the ways in which State Coordinators (SCs) and local liaisons (LLs) can effectively leverage social media and novel outreach methodologies. The ultimate goal of the tip sheet is to heighten these practitioners’ ability to influence and make a more profound impact on the lives of children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness.

State Education Agency Program Review and Planning Guide and Appendices

This Program Review and Planning Guide (referred to in this document as “the Guide”) provides state coordinators overseeing their state Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) program with a step-by-step process to review program requirements, examine data, assess, and prioritize needs, set annual goals, and develop an action plan to achieve the goals.

A Guide to Effective Collaborations with Community-Based Organizations to Support Students Experiencing Homelessness

This NCHE report is designed for State Coordinators for Homeless Education and local homeless education liaisons as well as community-based organizations that work with youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. The report highlights how collaborating, informally or formally (through contracts or other agreements), with community-based organizations can be an effective strategy for program implementation, describes effective strategies for collaborating with community-based organizations at the state and local levels and includes examples of collaborations between local education agencies and community-based organizations.
