The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) operates the U.S. Department of Education's technical assistance and information center for the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. NCHE is based at The SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). NCHE hosts this Homeless Education Mailing List to share information and resources with educators, service providers, and other interested stakeholders about meeting the educational needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. The ideas on this listserv do not necessarily reflect the views of NCHE, The SERVE Center, UNCG, or the U.S. Department of Education. ALL LOBBYING ACTIVITIES ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

NEW NCHE RESOURCES

Dear colleagues:

After some unexpected technology challenges, NCHE is happy to announce that the NCHE website is back up and running! We are continuing to work diligently to find and fix any remaining glitches. Thank you all for your patience.

Additionally, NCHE is pleased to announce the release of several new NCHE resources!

Student Homelessness in America: School Years 2018-19 to 2020-21: This report provides a summary of demographic data collected by the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program.
Addressing Homelessness in America: Serving Students with McKinney-Vento Funding, School Years 2017-18 to 2019-20: This brief examines the number of school districts that receive McKinney-Vento subgrants and the number of students identified by those districts as children and youth who experienced homelessness.
Chronic Absenteeism Among Students Experiencing Homelessness in America: School Years 2016-17 to 2020-21: This brief examines chronic absenteeism among students who experience homelessness.
Students Living with Caregivers to the Best Practices in Homeless Education: This NCHE brief explores living situations where children and youth are staying with caregivers or on their own, discusses access to education and other services for students living with caregivers or on their own, and offers strategies that local homeless education liaisons and school staff can implement to ensure these students and caregiver families receive appropriate services.
