The National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE) operates the U.S. Department of Education's technical assistance and information center for the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program. NCHE is based at The SERVE Center at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). NCHE hosts this Homeless Education Mailing List to share information and resources with educators, service providers, and other interested stakeholders about meeting the educational needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. NCHE invites you to join us for a three part Supporting Young Children Experiencing Homelessness webinar series. NCHE staff will present the webinars in partnership with the Ounce of Prevention Fund staff. The Ounce of Prevention Fund is an organization that focuses solely on ensuring quality experiences for all children, particularly those born into poverty, aged 0-5.



Serving Young Children Experiencing Homelessness under the McKinney-Vento Act

Tuesday, June 16, 2020 | 2:00PM-3:00PM ET

 

The first webinar will set the context for the series by explaining the McKinney-Vento Act requirements related to identifying, enrolling, and transporting young children while highlighting strategies for implementation. 

 

Early Care & Education Programs and Services for Young Children Experiencing Homelessness
Tuesday, June 23, 2020 | 2:00PM-3:00PM ET


During the second webinar, presenters will describe the various programs and services providing early care,education, and family support to children and families, including program eligibility requirements and benefits. Participants will learn how to help families experiencing homelessness access early care and education programs in their communities and gain strategies for creating partnerships with early childhood stakeholders. 


Early Childhood Trauma and Homelessness
Tuesday, June 30, 2020 | 2:00PM-3:00PM ET

 

The third webinar will provide an overview of early childhood trauma and how it impacts young children – especially those experiencing homelessness. Presenters will discuss trauma-informed practices and review specific interventions and resources.
