School Counselor Strategies and Resources to Help Homeless Youth Prepare for College
|
|
|
Good afternoon colleagues:
Are you a school counselor who has worked with homeless youth to help them prepare for a successful transition to higher education? If so, NCHE would love to hear from you!
In preparation for an upcoming webinar with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), NCHE is looking for strategies, best practices, and resources school counselors have used in helping homeless youth prepare for college. This joint NCHE/ASCA webinar is being developed as a result of a new requirement in the Every Student Succeeds Act, which requires that state homeless education plans include a description of how homeless youth will receive assistance from school counselors to advise them, and prepare and improve their readiness, for college.
If you have related strategies, best practices, or resources that you, as a school counselor, have used and are willing to share, please email me directly at
cdukes@serve.org. Also, if you work with a school counselor in your district who might be able to contribute, please feel free to share this message with him or her. Finally, if you think your district's school counselors do an especially good job of supporting homeless youth in preparing for college, please feel free to pass on the name and email address of someone in your district who'd be willing to discuss this in further details.
Please direct any responses or questions to
cdukes@serve.org. Thank you in advance for your time.
Best regards,
Christina Dukes, Federal Liaison
