Everlast
(Helichrysum italicum) essential oil has experienced a simply stunning global career over the last 30 years. Its rise started from Corsica in the early nineties when French protagonists such as Franchomme, Pénoël, La Praz and Balz recognized its tissue rejuvenating qualities. The desire to have a young, beautiful complexion is universal. It did not take long before there was a globally marketed cosmetic line built around the seemingly magical powers of this oil. Scarce supply sent the price up inspiring forceful efforts to cultivate the plant previously only harvested in the wild.

The Sites: Corsica, Provence and Bosnia
Before 1990 Helichrysum oil was mostly distilled in Croatia and the Balkans to supply the flavor industry in Grasse. This supply line dried up as a result of the Yugoslav wars leaving Corsica as the only source.
After the wars Helichrysum oil was again cultivated in Bosnia. Recently the oil has also been distilled from cultivated plant inventory in Provence. It is important to note that harvesting wild Helichrysum in mainland France is illegal! Given this variety of cultivated and wild crafted oils it should be of prime interest to compare the different distillates.

Therapeutic Properties
According to French style aromatherapy Everlast oil counteracts and clears hematomas with astounding efficacy. It supports healing by protecting the newly formed tissue from the damaging effects of free radicals. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent and can normally be used, due to its extremely gentle character, undiluted to cleanse fresh injuries. More recently it has been recommended by French authors for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

Our 4138 Helichrysum is finally back in stock! The 2020 batch we can offer is one of the most gentle Helichrysum oils both by fragrance and impact on the skin. The oil is produced by our trusted partners in Provence and referred to as Corsican style. Its analysis supports this designation as it has all the desired hallmark components: 31% of the ester neryl acetate and a total of 10% of the italidiones I, II and III. Its chemical composition is practically identical to the Corsican oils.

Helichrysum italicum Comparison Set
Today there are two basic types of Helichrysum offered on the market. The aforementioned Corsican type with a high neryl acetate content and the Bosnian type with a lesser ester content and higher diketone content. A frequent question arises: What is the difference in their therapeutic qualities? In our opinion the oils can be used interchangeably. We do however recognize that many experienced formulators in aromatherapy don't want to miss the pain relieving and relaxing qualities that accompany a higher ester concentration. To provide an overview of authentic Helichrysum oils on the market we are happy to offer a discounted set of Helichrysum from Corsica, Provence and two from different producers in south west Bosnia.
