Helichrysum Oils: Aromatherapy’s Bright Star
The therapeutic benefits of most aromatic plants such as Lavender, Rosemary, Frankincense and Ginger have been well known for a very long time. The benefits of Helichrysum, while part of traditional healing in Sardinia, only recently have become known to a wide audience. Today Helichrysum italicum essential oil is in global demand.

The Site: Bordering the Adriatic Sea
The hills and coastal mountains of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are classic Helichrysum territory. Before 1990 most Helichrysum was produced in the Balkans. Historically, the lion's share of the oil was sold to the flavor industries in Grasse to flavor pipe tobacco. Only when the Yugoslav Wars disrupted production did the Corsican Helichrysum move to the center of attention in the world of aromatherapy.

Therapeutic Properties
Helichrysum italicum essential oil has a rather unusual composition. It is almost exclusively composed of ester components, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and diketones. This essential oil lacks stimulating or heat creating substances therefore is an unrivaled anti-inflammatory and free radical scavenger. It protects young tissue and supports the regeneration of tissue. Helichrysum italicum is used for its wound healing and rejuvenating effects.

#118 Helichrysum italicum from Bosnia
As Corsican Helichrysum oils became exquisitely expensive due to the limited quantities available, Helichrysum production resumed in the Balkans. The oils from the Balkans are distinguished by a relatively high diketone content which would explain their high efficacy for wound healing and tissue regeneration.
