Lemon Verbena: Optimism and Hope
Lemon Verbena has a most delightful fragrance one wishes would last forever. The Spanish brought the plant from South America back to the old world in the 17th century only for it to quickly spread through the herb gardens of Europe and the Mediterranean. Lemon Verbena remained popular with 19th century American pioneers as a home-grown perfume and later became a star ingredient in the French herb tea concoction "Tisane." Its main use in aromatherapy is to dispel sorrow, gloom and depression.

The Site: Mediterannean, Morocco
Lemon Verbena was extensively cultivated in North Africa in the middle of the 20th century. As a consequence of low yield, climatic requirements of the plant and increasing availability of substitutes for perfumery its cultivation for EO production went largely out of fashion. The perfume industry at the time was the only arbiter of the value of an odorant therefore its psychological effects were not discussed.
