Eucalyptus globulus One Year Leaf:
The Gentle Respiratory Powerhouse
An interesting peculiarity of Eucalyptus globulus is that it is heteroblastic: It starts with juvenile oval leaves attached to the branch opposite each other while the mature tree bears leaves of a narrow oval shape coming to a point at each end.
Eucalyptus globulus oils distilled from mature trees contain traces of irritant aldehydes. Oil from juvenile leaves does not contain these components and is perfectly gentle.

The Site: Corsica
Essential oil distillers in Corsica have added depth and variety to aromatherapy by distilling the leaves of juvenile trees, creating an oil which is more gentle yet powerful than oils distilled from mature leaves.
This oil is not a regular commodity of trade and is only available on rare occasions. Regulations in France require mature Eucalyptus globulus to be rectified (re-distilled). This oil, distilled from the round, one year-old leaves is brought to market unrectified.

Therapeutic Properties
The general composition of regular Eucalyptus globulus oil with up to 85% cineole, some sesquiterpene alcohols and hydrocarbons renders the oil an excellent expectorant. With good antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties, it is an effective agent to counteract catarrhal infections. Eucalyptus oils are therefore used worldwide in both mass-market health products and home preparations to help with bronchitis, sinusitis, nasopharyngitis and symptoms of influenza. It is used for infectious dermatosis conditions as well as parasitic infections of the skin and intestines.
