Patchouli: Fresh from Sri Lanka
Patchouli
(Pogostemon cablin) is a globally valued fragrance material with unique characteristics. As such it is distilled not only in its origin Sumatra but all over South East and South Asia. Our current batch is a fresh distillate from Sri Lanka. It features not so much the 60's style fragrance often associated with Patchouli but rather a very delightful symphony of fresh, light and elegant notes. Special fact about Patchouli: There is NO synthetic substitute for the sesquiterpene alcohol patchoulol found in Patchouli oil.

The Sites:
Sumatra and Sri Lanka
While most Patchouli today is still distilled in Indonesia, distillates from tropical Sri Lanka have become popular in their own right. Patchouli is also cultivated in the Philippines, Madagascar and many countries of Southeast Asia.
It is a major commodity with a large global market with over $70 million in the US alone.

Therapeutic Properties
Beyond its worth as a fragrance material, Patchouli has exquisite physiological properties most beneficial in aromatherapy. It combines considerable therapeutic value with an accessible price. In French Style aromatherapy it is an established venous, lymphatic and prostate decongestant. Its main therapeutic indications are for internal and external hemorrhoids, varicose veins, heavy legs, oedema, prostatitis and prostate congestion. It is also useful for eczema, psoriasis and bedsores.
