“I refer to your correspondence dated 19 February 2013 providing projects that may be of community benefit to be considered in the City’s 2013/2014 Budget. I provide the following response for projects submitted for consideration:
1. Review problems with the bridge abutment at 1 Cambria Island.
Structural assessment is in progress with the view to reaching a workable, cost effective solution which can be funded in the 2014/2015 budget.
2. Improve the intersection at Old Coast Road and Mandurah Road to make it safer for motorists to turn right on to the bypass.
This intersection is under the care, control and management of Main Roads Western Australia. However, I can advise that approval has been received to install a seagull island in the main road as an interim step. Ultimately a traffic controlled intersection will be installed.
3. Introduce speed indicating displays for boats entering the Port Mandurah canal system.
This is not a priority for the City and would ideally be an issue to be discussed with the appropriate state agency.
4. Improve visibility of navigation piles in the Port Mandurah canals.

"As we approach the mid-year financial cycle I can proudly report some significant reductions in certain crimes for the Mandurah area. In comparison to this time last year we have had a 9.4% reduction in report offences which equates to a reduction of 333 offences in total. This includes a 20% reduction in burglaries, 20.3% reduction in theft of motor vehicles and a 16.7% reduction in stealing offences. Unfortunately we have not fared so well in assaults, with a 7.7% increase in non-domestic assaults and a whopping 58.7% increase in domestic assaults.
The reduction in property related crime has been due to the enormous workload your local police have put in targeting known offenders. In the lead in to the hotter months we know the pressure cannot be lifted and we must continue to keep our mind on the job. We cannot do what we do without public support so please continue to report suspicious behaviour and assist us by securing your property and your personal belongings.

New Years Eve Preparations
The City of Mandurah and WA Police have been working hard to make sure that the celebrations for this summer run seamlessly. The event has been moved to the Dome end of the Mandurah Foreshore. The New Years Eve event is a family-focused, alcohol-free celebration on Tuesday 31 December from 6.00pm to midnight. Gather the family and friends and bring in the new year on the beautiful Mandurah foreshore. It’s the perfect setting with a fun family atmosphere, festivities galore and loads of entertainment and live music. Visit the exciting youth zone, enjoy some local talent and then head over to the silent disco, great fun for young and old! Make your New Year’s celebrations one to remember with impressive fireworks displays at 9.00pm and at midnight to welcome 2014!

Holiday Security
Don’t leave your home open this festive season. In the rush to leave for a holiday, it is easy to forget things. But with over 30% of burglaries happening through unlocked doors and windows, it’s worthwhile to take a few minutes to go through this checklist to help secure your home.

 

Checklist
With every ‘yes’ you tick your home becomes more burglar proof
• Are all doors and windows locked, including pet, garage and shed doors?
• Have you given a friend or neighbour your contact details and spare keys?
• Are all tools locked away?
• Have you organised for your mail and papers to be collected?
• Did you disconnect your electronic roller door?
• Have you hidden your car keys?
• Are all your valuables and important documents in a safe?
• Have you turned down the ring volume on your phone?
• Did you let your Neighbourhood Watch representative know what dates you will be away?
• Have you set your automatic timing device for lights and TV or radio?

Tips
• Remember to activate alarms systems when leaving your home
• Consider installing movement-activated external lighting
• Make windows more secure by fitting locks, safety film, security screens or external roller shutters."
