Pelaqita Persians
December 1, 2015
It has been a busy month so far. Thanksgiving rolled right into the Ohio State Persian Club's annual cat show the weekend of December 5th.

We took MayMay and Bishop to the cat show. Bishop got a couple of second places for best bi-color Persian, but he did not make any finals.

Judge Sharon Powell, Susan, and MayMay MayMay, however, did fantastic!! On Saturday, under Judge Sharon Powell, MayMay made a final and received 9th Best Kitten (100 kittens were entered - which means MayMay beat out 91 other kittens!). On Sunday, under Judge Jacqui Bennett, MayMay made her final and received 6th Best Kitten.

What an exciting weekend, and we could not be prouder of MayMay and Bishop with such incredible competition. Click here to view some candids that were taken during the cat show.

This month we celebrate the Holidays, and there are dangers from Holiday-related products to be aware of. Below is an article with a few tips on keeping your pets safe during this busy season.

Finally, veterinarians seem to be getting onboard about the important (and underrated) fact that water (not prescription diets) is vital to cats and their urinary tract issues. See the article below for an important update.

Ralph is doing much better. Every day he is a bit better and more mobile. He can jump up on chairs now but still does not have the strength to jump up on our bed. Below is a short video of him taken this morning so you all can see how far his recovery has taken him so far.

The Not So Secret Solution for Urinary Crystals in Pets
Finally, it seems some vets are getting on board regarding the correlation of preventing urinary tract issues and WATER INTAKE in cats. This article mentions that many cat owners that fed "prescription" diets still had repeated issues and surgeries for their cats. Duh!!!! As a woman, I know that every time I got a urinary tract infection what did the doctor tell me? Drink more water; you need to keep your system flushed out. The same, it seems, is true for our cats; something my veterinarian told me over 15 years ago. Evidently, his opinion was somewhat revolutionary for the times.

Here at Pelaqita Persians, we allow free access to water, but in addition to that, our sneaky way to get more "water" into our cats is to give them canned food (70% or more of canned food is water), but we ADD water to their canned food so that it is similar to "pea soup" in consistency. Does this help? I have no empirical evidence, but I have not had repeated issues with urinary tract infections.

Did You Know?
What is a cat's favorite song? Three Blind Mice.

Adult cats have 30 teeth (2 upper canines, 6 upper incisors, 6 upper premolars, and 2 upper molars. On the bottom jaw, the cat has 2 lower canines, 6 lower incisors, 4 lower premolars, and 2 lower molars). Dogs have 42.

Domestic cats are essentially loners. When placed in a group, they develop their own hierarchy. As long as there is plenty of food on hand, a cat can learn to share its domain with other cats.
