Pelaqita Persians
December 1, 2016
November went by so very quickly between Thanksgiving, cat shows and new kittens being born. I am off to a two-day cat show this weekend in Maumee, Ohio. As always, spectators are welcome. Come on down and see us! This particular cat club is on its last legs unless it can get some support from not only the exhibitors but spectators. Unless they can turn a profit this weekend, it is my understanding this club will no longer exist. If you have the time, please show your support by coming on down to the show this weekend. It is located at:

Lucas County Fairgrounds
1406 Key St, Maumee, Ohio 43537

It is official; Eden needs just four more points to be a Grand Champion. So, if you are in the area this weekend, come see Eden at the cat show!
Have a great Holiday season.
Are All Cat Breeders Created Equally?
I recently came across a Facebook post that got my Sicilian and Portuguese blood boiling. As a person that has been showing and raising animals for over 30 years, the post offended me on many levels. But mainly, it scared me. This person's post scared me because there will be some unsuspecting kitten buyers who will fall for his garbage and think he is a responsible and knowledgeable breeder.

I started thinking about what I believe makes a responsible breeder. Is it someone that just loves cats and decides she wants to sell kittens? Is it someone that spends many years studying pedigrees, learning how to care for a Persian, learning about the breed disposition to certain illnesses/genetic issues? Is it someone that shows and breeds because they are trying to continue the breed and always keeping an eye on the "betterment" of the breed?

What I decided is that "not all breeders are created equally."

World Show
As many of you know, my friend, Jackie Bates, and I attended the World Show in Novi, Michigan the weekend of November 19 & 20, 2016. It was my second World Show and Jackie's first. The World Cat Show is held in different states each year. Next year, it will be held in Portland, Oregon.

Rosie made one final and got 14th Best Kitten! I was so very pleased as I really did not expect to do anything at this show. Jackie brought Eden (one of Funfetti's kittens) and Eden made a couple of finals and did very well at the show. It was great to see many of our friends and to make new friends. Did You Know?
All kittens are born with blue eyes (just like with human babies), and then they often change color as the kittens grow.

Domestic cats are capable of sprinting at about 31 miles per hour.

If your cat refuses your tap water, it may be smelling (with its superior sense of smell) the chlorine or other minerals in your water. Many finicky felines demand bottled water, just like their human counterparts.

"If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." ~ Samuel Clements
