Hello    -

Many of you know the northeastern parts of the United States are suffering from the frigid weather the past weeks. I am so ready for spring!

snow storm on barn
During the recent snowstorm, I took this picture of our barn.

The chickens, peacock and guinea hens are all inside the barn under their heat lamp. Horses, mini-donkeys, and goats are out behind the barn in the corral with plenty hay to keep them warm inside their shelter.

Have a great Valentines' Day!

Cat Vitals and When is it an Emergency?
By:   Susan MacArthur

Knowing how to take your cat's pulse, take its temperature and find out its respiration is a handy skill if you feel that your cat is ill and if a trip to the veterinarian's office is necessary. The rate that a cat's heart beats is his "pulse" rate which normally beats between 140 and 220 times a minute. A relaxed cat's pulse is on the lower end of the scale and will increase with stress or illness (i.e., a visit to the veterinarian's office could increase the cat's heart rate).

By now, we all know that cats rule the Internet, which is exemplified by their full command over our homes and hearts. Feline cuteness is everywhere on the web and for good reason. Whether it be viewing a cat playing a piano video, a cat cleaning a napping baby, or a sleeping kitten picture ... it just adds a little brightness and fun to our day whether sitting in our silent office or cruising the Internet via our home computer.

Cat O'The Month

Jeffrey - brown tabby male Persian kitten
Hello Susan.

Here's my little guy. While working in my office using my office pc, I received your email. Jeffrey was helping me on my keyboard, and enjoying himself. Then he just climbed up on my desk and took a nap.

You are a special person. And anyone that meets you recognizes that. Especially anyone who loves animals.

I will be a responsible Mom. Carol will be helping me to take care of him properly.
Have a good Sunday. Take care.

SEND  US  THOSE  CAT  PICTURES

Does your cat do something that you think nobody would believe unless they saw a picture of it? Send us that picture. Is your cat having a love affair with another species? Send us the picture. Is your cat the life of any gathering? Send us the picture. You get the idea. We thought it would be fun to show a Cat of the Month photo every month which will be posted in our newsletter. If you submit a picture, please include your full name (this information is just for us and will not be shared), the name, age or date of birth, color, and breed of your cat. If there are other animals in the picture, please let us know who or what is appearing with your cat. You MUST be the owner of the picture in order to submit the picture to us. The cat does NOT need to be a Persian cat, nor does it have to be a purebred. We just want to make this fun. Send the pictures to:    susan@pelaqitapersians.com

DID YOU KNOW?
The primitive ancestor of cats, Miacis, was a small, tree-living creature of the late Eocene period, some 45-50 million years agor.

In the 1800's cats were used to deliver mail. In 1879, in Belgium 37 cats were used to deliver mail to villages, however they found that the cats were not disciplined enough to do this.

Many cats cannot properly digest cow's milk. Milk and milk products give them diarrhea. Adult cats should NOT be given milk.

"A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not." ~ Ernest Hemingway
LITTER BOX
Upcoming Litters:

Sugar was bred to ESPY, IF Sugar is pregnant, she will be due around March 4, 2014.

Sophia was bred to Diggie, but we are not sure anything happened.  Because this may be one of her last litters, we wanted to make sure she got pregnant, so we also let ESPY entertain her.  We will do the DNA testing if a litter is born to determine parentage.

Millie was bred to ESPY in the past few weeks.

Upcoming Breedings:

As soon as Maker cycles again, we hope to breed her to ESPY.
