Pelaqita Persians
February 1, 2016
The inspection is over, and we are pleased to announce we earned the necessary points to qualify for CFA's "Cattery of Excellence" in 2016. We have received this honor every year since we first applied in 2005.

Funfetti and Diggie had four kittens on January 22nd; two boys and two girls. We are not taking deposits or reserving any of these kittens at this time. We want time for the kittens to develop so we know what we have. I want to keep a kitten for showing, and I have three other show breeders interested in this litter. Additionally, until we can identify the colors of the two girls (about five colors they could be), we do not want to make a decision as to which kitten stays and which one might be available to a pet home or a show home.

Millie and Diggie's litter are due within the next few weeks. This litter will more than likely be available to pet homes.

As Valentine's Day is approaching, please remember to keep flowers, candy and chocolates and other goodies out of your cat or kitten's reach as many can cause serious illness or even death if eaten.

Have a safe and Happy Valentine's Day with your sweetie
Feline Upper Respiratory Infection
Feline upper respiratory infection is a condition that affects a cat's sinuses, throat and nose. It can be caused by a variety of different bacteria and viruses and is similar to the common cold in humans. However, cats do not "catch colds".

Viruses and bacteria associated with upper respiratory infection ("URI") are contagious and can infect healthy cats that come in direct contact with sick ones. It's important to keep in mind that even cats who do not show clinical signs of the condition may infect others, since the incubation period is the most infectious one.

Holiday Dangers
Special dangers await your cat during the Holidays. Thousands of cats suffer injury or become deathly ill even die each year during the Holidays which would put a damper on any Holiday season. During this busy time of year, we often forget about our four-legged family members during all the Holiday festivities. Cats are just as curious and anxious about the Holidays as we are.

Did You Know?
Cats lap liquid with the underside of their tongue, not from the top.

Female cats are "polyestrous" which means they have many heat cycles over the course of the year. A cat will usually not cycle when the days become shorter (lack of day light). - November, December. A cat needs 8-12 hours of sunlight each day in order to cycle.

"Cats are glorious creatures - who must on no accounts be underestimated… Their eyes are fathomless depths of cat-world mysteries." ~ Lesley Anne Ivory (from Glorious Cats, The Patintings of Lesley Ann Ivory)
