Happy New Year

Persian cats in front of wood burning stove
I cannot believe that 2011 has already ended, and it is now time for the start of a new year. I guess it is true that the older you get, the faster the year(s) goes by.

The weather here in Ohio has become decidedly cold, although it is a much milder winter than last year. We have begun burning wood in our Buck Stove to help heat the house and keep the cost of electric heat pump somewhat more reasonable. The cats love to curl up in front of the stove to keep nice and toasty (plus they like to watch the flames dancing in the window of the wood stove).

We wish you all a Happy New Year!
Eye Cleaning
Unlike many other breeds of cats, Persian cats require a little more care. There are a few main categories of Persian cat care:

  • Coat Maintenance;
  • Eye Cleaning; Nails;
  • Teeth;
  • Ear Cleaning; and
  • Bathing

In this article, we will be addressing keeping a Persian cat's eyes clean. There are other articles on this site about coat maintenance, nails, teeth care, ear cleaning, and bathing.

Bathing A Persian Cat
As a companion to our article to Persian Cat Grooming and Bathing, we have published a series of YouTube videos on bathing a Persian cat.

These videos are done in four parts to illustrate the following:

  1. Getting organized and proper supplies for bathing;
  2. Nail trimming, and combing the cat to remove any dead coat and eliminate any mats before bathing;
  3. Bathing the cat and good rinsing technique, including how to float the cat's coat; and
  4. Drying the Persian cat and the last comb through of the cat's coat.

Did You Know?
The oldest living cat as of 2004 (confirmed by the Guinness Blood of World Records) was Crème Puff, who lived to 38 years of age, though there have been unsubstantiated reports of even older cats.

We hope to have kittens in a few months. As you all know, we have been waiting on Dignity to "get a clue" about the girls.

For those of you on our wait list for a kitten:

I have talked with a fellow Persian breeder. She and I are in negotiations for me to "lease" her red and white, male Persian cat for a few months for breeding purposes. Therefore, hopefully in the next few months, we will have some very nice kittens on the ground. ESPY is a very nice male with a wide head, huge eyes and should compliment our girls.
