Pelaqita Persians
July 1, 2015
We hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July. Living in a rural area as we do, we hear a lot of fireworks going off before the 4th, but we are thankful that none of our outside critters care about the noise or that our inside critters appear even to notice. Now, thunder and lightening do frighten Phalen though! :-)

We took this cute picture of a few of our kittens.

Cats and Microchipping
For years dogs have been microchipped. It is a no-brainer to have a dog microchipped, dogs usually go outside to potty, dogs are taken to obedience classes, for walks, rides and hikes. Therefore, dogs are more susceptible to straying from home and becoming lost. Nowadays, most cats live indoors never setting a paw outside. However, a cat can accidentally get outside because a door did not close all the way, a visitor to our home accidentally allows the cat to get out, or instead of using a carrier to transport our cat to the vet’s office we carry it in our arms from house to car. A cat can suddenly escape our arms and away he goes.

Did You Know?
On average, owners have two cats (2.45). (Humane Society -survey 2009-2010).

If your cat hides and then runs out and pounces on you, she is acting out her instinctive hunting ritual.

Do not pick a kitten or cat up by the scruff of its neck; ONLY mother cats can do this safely, and only with their kittens.

Beware of people who dislike cats. ~ Irish proverb

"There is, incidentally, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person." ~ Dan Greenberg

Cat O'Month

Hi Susan:

Zuzu and Izzy

Some men when they reach a milestone birthday such as 50…go out and buy a sports car…a motorcycle…but I am the type of guy who goes out and adopts two cats. That was eight years ago…do the math…I am now 58 and my two kittens, Zuzu and Izzy are 8 years old.

Zuzu is a lilac point Himalayan and a sweet ragdoll of a kitty who could spend her entire day on a lap being petted and groomed. My grandchildren love to push her around in a doll stroller…and she eats it up! Izzy is a sweet petite tortoiseshell Persian with the thickest coat you ever could see. She actually could be combed three times per day…and I would still find a tangle someplace on her body! Of course of the two, she enjoys being groomed the least. She also loves my grandchildren and enjoys crawling up their chest and snuggling against their neck… sort of giving them a hug! These two furballs share their home with my wife, Robin and I along with our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Pippa who we adopted from our local animal shelter 3 years ago and our huge main coon type kitty, Annie.

I do believe that our God has a sense of humor…especially where I am concerned. He created me as a “Felix Unger” type man who wants a clean house…everything in order…and no pet hair! But he also created a kitty loving man…who really loves his Persian kitties… so to survive…I have a good vacuum…have learned the best cat hair removing tool for your furniture is a good damp regular old sponge…and a good sense of humor! I actually witnessed my two grandchildren one day on their bellies blowing a fur ball down the hall on our hardwood floors!

I am trying really hard to convince my wife that we need to add another Persian kitty to our menagerie…any bets as how it will turn out?

Thom and Robin I.
