    Dear

Rumba - Brown miniature donkey

The weather has improved so much over the past few weeks. With Spring in the air all the creatures that roam our property (unwanted ones that is) have probably had babies and who need feeding.  My chickens and guinea hens seem to be the food of choice at the moment.

When we had Jason, our miniature donkey, we did not have a problem with predators on our property.  However, since he died last Fall, I think the word is out that the pasture is an excellent feeding ground.  So.... I finally convinced my husband to let me get another miniature donkey.  We found two that we ultimately fell in love with and brought them home the same day we bought them.

Patches - white and grey miniature donkey
The solid brown one is named Rumba, and the white and gray one is called Patches.  Rumba is five years old, and Patches is 12 years old.  It took a few days before the horses stopped trying to run them off, but now everyone seems to be getting along.  Rumba and Patches pretty much hang out together.  Rumba will give you kisses if you lean down and say "give me kisses" and he raises his nose up to your face and just lays it there until you move away.  So very cute!  Since they have been here, we haven't seen the coyote that had been hanging around here nor have we lost any more chickens or guinea hens.

We are very happy to have added these two beautiful boys to our home.

Five People Foods to Never Feed Your Cat
by:   Dr. Sarah

This month’s episode of Pet Talk with Dr. Sarah is just for felines. It turns out, that myth about finicky appetites doesn’t mean they won’t consume things that can damage their little bodies. You may think you know what human foods a cat should and should not eat, but we guarantee that some of these will surprise you. We’re talking about more than just avoiding stomach upset; some of these ingestibles may prove lethal to a cat. Because your cat’s long-term wellness is our primary concern, Dr. Sarah is throwing in an extra ‘must-avoid’ product, along with info about what constitutes a genuinely balanced diet for optimal kitty health. To learn which people foods should be kept safely out of kitty’s reach, watch the latest episode of Pet Talk now.

Designer Cats

By:  Susan MacArthur

Over 4,000 years ago, the Egyptians domesticated cats.  Nowadays, people have a taste for all things exotic and are working to undo the domesticated cat with the introduction of "half-wild" cats.  These "breeders" (and I use the term loosely) are breeding for a designer look and taken to breeding house cats with medium-sized wild cats to create new animals that act as if they were still in the grasslands of Africa.

Cat O' the Month

 Pukee and Angel Cake

Hi Susan.

You can use the photo if you want. I have some other shots I could send, let me know.

The golden Kitty is Pukee. He's going on 14 and I got him from small local breeder in Illinois when I lived there. He's outgoing, friendly and likes company including other pets. He only likes his dry food and will not eat anything else.

Angel
"Angel"

The grey kitty is Angel and will be 3 in june. She has not been around other pets yet and hides when other people come over but is very attached to me and likes to sleep either on me or up against me. I call her Angel cake. The last time I had her groomed...they like their fur short... all these spots showed up but as the fur grew they're gone. I never seen that before.

I sending a photo of that plus a picture of this folding tent I got thru Amazon for them. It's really great and less then $40 bucks.

If you submit a picture, please include your full name (this information is just for us and will not be shared), the name, age or date of birth, color, and breed of your cat. If there are other animals in the picture, please let us know who or what is appearing with your cat. You MUST be the owner of the picture in order to submit the picture to us. The cat does NOT need to be a Persian cat, nor does it have to be a purebred. We just want to make this fun.

Did You Know?
Persians have sweet personalities and are the type of cat that loves to sit beside their owner on the sofa - a true "couch potato"!

Just like us, cats should have their teeth seen to in order to maintain healthy gums and oral hygiene.  Once they are adults, have your veterinarian check them out to see if they need a cleaning.

The largest cat breed is the Main Coon.  Males weigh any where between 15 and 25 pounds with females weighing between 10 and 15 pounds.

Never feed your cat dog food.  Cats need five times more protein than dogs do.

"The only mystery about the cat is why it ever decided to become a domestic animal." ~ Sir Compton MacKenzie
