Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope this Newsletter finds all of you safe and sound for those of you and your family that have been affected by Sandy. Well, it is that time of year where we are all gearing up for Thanksgiving and the Christmas Holidays. Remember during this busy time of year that it can be stressful for our furry friends and please keep a close eye on them.

We attended a pet Halloween Party at our veterinarian's office on October 30th. Both Phelan and Grady came in costume as well as the other attendees. Phelan was Michael Vic (a tongue in cheek costume to the football star that was convicted of cruelty to animals by fighting his Pitbull dogs). Grady was our little witch. There were treats for both human and dogs, games for the dogs to participate in (Phelan and Grady were not impressed with the games), and ribbons were awarded for four of the dog costumes. Phelan won Best Halloween Costume! We really enjoyed ourselves and the dogs were so very well-behaved, and we couldn't be more proud of our two boys.

Everyone have a safe and joyous Thanksgiving!

Feline Feeding Behaviors & Why It Matters
Cats are enigmatic creatures. Having an appreciation for their motivations will not only help you to develop a deeper bond, it could make your cat healthier, too.

Feeding your feline optimal nutrition not only requires an understanding of your cat's unique nutritional needs, but also of their feeding behavior. In fact, understanding the nuances of feline consumption can help combat one of the most common feeding disorders in cats - obesity.

Holiday Dangers
To help keep our pets safe and healthy this holiday season, we suggest that you keep the following seasonal dangers for your cat (and dog) in mind:

Did You Know?
A falling cat will always right itself in a precise order. First, the head will rotate, then the spine will twist and the rear legs will align, then the cat will arch its back to lessen the impact from landing.

If your cat is a "seasonal" climber, try hanging an orange or lemon scented air freshener in the inner branches of the Christmas tree.

A group of grown cats is called a "clowder".

Eighty-seven percent of owned cats are spayed or neutered. (Humane Society survey 2009-2010).

"When I play with my cat, who knows whether she is not amusing herself with more than I with her?" ~ Michel E. de Monaigne, Essays, Book II
Litter Box

As many of you know via our Facebook page, Sugar (Destiny) is NOT pregnant. We believe that she did, in fact, suffer a spontaneous abortion at around her 3rd week of pregnancy. This does happen on occasion, but it is not indicative of a cat not being able to have future litters. It is just part of Mother Nature.

We are just sorry that it had to happen now as we knew that with the declining daylight hours (shorter days) that the girls would not be cycling for a few months, so we were hoping that Sugar was pregnant. Oh well, such is the life of a breeder, we hope that things will return to normal as soon as the daylight hours start to get a little longer towards the end of this year.

Cat O'Month
Susan.

Your kittens are very well adjusted and you do a excellent job of preparing them for their future homes.

On youtube there are free videos for cats. Miles and Maizzie loved them. They both walked around the iPad looking for the birds or fish. Then they sat in front of the iPad and would try to bat the the birds on the screen.

We thought it would be fun to show a Cat O'Month photo every month which will be posted in our newsletter. If you submit a picture, please provide the following information:

  1. Your full name (Only first name will be used in newsletter)
  2. Name of cat;
  3. Age or date of birth of cat;
  4. Color and breed of cat;
  5. If other animals are pictured, please provide the animal's information.

You MUST be the owner of the picture. The cat does NOT have to be a Persian cat, nor does it have to be a purebred cat. We just want to make this fun.
