    Dear

Labor Day

storm damage
I cannot believe how fast this year has gone and the Labor Day weekend is already upon us.

John with the help of one of our neighbors has been working hard at cleaning up all our downed trees due to the storm we had come through her in late June. It doesn't help that the temperatures until the past few days has been in the high 90's with humidity that brought the heat up to well over 100 degrees! Yuck.

Everyone have a safe Labor Day!

It is our hope that sometime in the near future, our new veterinarian may contribute a cat-related article for our Newsletter.

Please remember, that we have a  Facebook page. It's a great way to get a bit of a behind the scenes look at our cattery and the goings on here. We will also use Facebook to keep everyone informed about upcoming litters and events.

A vaccination is a preparation of microorganisms (pathogens), such as viruses or bacteria, that is administered to produce or increase immunity to a particular disease. There can be no disputing that vaccines save lives but they also have some serious side effects which will be discussed on this web page.

Please note that the diseases we most commonly vaccinate cats for are caused by viruses - not bacteria. While it is difficult to induce long-term immunity to bacterial infections, vaccines targeted toward viruses are much more efficient at conferring long-term immunity in the recipient.

Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)
By:  Susan MacArthur

Does your cat's Health Guarantee have a clause that states it will become invalid if you vaccinate your kitten for FIP? Have you ever wondered why or do you understand why? Do you know what FIP is?

Cat O'Month

Cheeto, Pablo and Finn
Cheeto, Pablo and Finn

Hey there!

Cheeto and Finnegan are doing great. I can't say enough about how wonderful these cats are, I always speak so highly of you and your cats, everyone that meets them says the same thing, you literally have the best cats ever. If I could, I would have a house full, but then you would see me on an episode of animal hoarders and we don't want that. ha!

Cheeto is very laid back and mellow, she loves to eat...too much actually which is a bit of a challenge to keep her weight down with 3 cats... Little piggy. She is like any woman and can be very moody with the new addition, Pablo, she is not thrilled about having him, maybe she just can't get over he doesn't have any fur. HA!

Finnegan, on the other hand, is my sweet little boy, he is so gentle and has actually adopted the Sphynx as his own. I think he actually believes he gave birth to Pablo because he treats him as if he was his mom. We are constantly finding them awkwardly hugging or spooning. The are definitely best friends.

The Sphynx has been a great addition for Finnegan because they are best buds. For Cheeto, however, we may need to get a new female Persian kitten and make it even. lol

Hope all is well, I thought you would enjoy this picture of my Persian, Finn and Pablo. They are totally crazy, these 2.

Is your cat the life of any gathering? Send us the picture. You get the idea. We thought it would be fun to show a Cat of the Month photo every month which will be posted in our newsletter. If you submit a picture, please include your full name (this information is just for us and will not be shared), the name, age or date of birth, color, and breed of your cat. If there are other animals in the picture, please let us know who or what is appearing with your cat. You MUST be the owner of the picture in order to submit the picture to us. The cat does NOT need to be a Persian cat, nor does it have to be a purebred. We just want to make this fun.

Did You Know?
Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals. They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping. With that in mind, a seven year old cat has only been awake for two years of its life!

95% of all cat owners admit they talk to their cats.

To deter your cat from scratching your furniture, try putting lemon scent or orange scent on the area. Cats hate these smells.

In English, cat is "cat". French - "Chat"; German - "Katze"; Spanish - "Gato"; Italian - "Gatto"; Japanese - "Neko" and Arabic - "Kitte".

Cats were not allowed in rooms where private family discussions were going on as they believed that cats would definitely spread gossip around the town - Old Netherlands superstition.

"Surely the cat, when it assumes the meat loaf position and gazes meditatively through slitted eyes, is pondering thoughts of utter profundity." ~ Mij Colson Barnum
