On October 1st, we will be officially converting our office's electronic records to Epic, the system used by BJC and Washington University. Your office notes and labs will now be available for you to view in MyChart and will be accessible to your other BJC physicians as well. In addition, once you have had an office visit with us, you will be able to send us secure messages through MyChart. Due to its increased security and easy integration with your chart, MyChart will be our preferred method of communication. Overall, switching to Epic will enhance your continuity of care, provide you with access to your medical information, enhance your ability to communicate efficiently and securely with us, and allow you to view your upcoming appointments.
While all of us at Personal Physicians have spent the last 3 months working hard at learning these new systems, we suspect that there will be some hiccups and delays in the first few weeks of this transition. Please keep that in mind when you engage the office in October.
Our front desk workflow will change a bit in order to ensure your information is up to date in the BJC system. This will require a longer check-in process. Please be patient with our staff. To avoid delaying your appointment, we're asking that you arrive 10-15 minutes early for your appointment your first visit after October 1st. This will greatly assist with this process and allow you more time with your doctor.
In order for your lab results to show in MyChart, your lab orders will now be entered into Epic. This requires your order to be signed off by a physician so it can be electronically received by Quest or a BJC lab. Therefore, if you require blood work, you will have to have a scheduled appointment. We will not be able to accommodate walk-ins as your doctor may be tied up and unable to sign the orders at that time. For this same reason, any labs ordered by an outside physician will need to be sent to us at least 24 hours before your lab appointment.
Rest assured, the short-term inconveniences will be heavily outweighed by the long-term benefits and improvements of integrated care!
