Bike Underground

Hey , well I have a bunch of new bike brands to tell you about and trail rumours to confirm (Te Mata Peak circuit anyone?) but more importantly this week I want to give a shout out to three people who keep Revolution Bikes running.

For those of you not in-the-know through Facebook (why not?) my long-time staff member Kurt is back from a Queenstown sabbatical (with a few new skills in the workshop, plus he now rides up hills) and he’s straight into pimping out Downhill and Enduro bikes. Welcome home sonny boy!

Despite what you might think we are not just Mountain Bikes though, Nicolas is an A grade Rambler, a national champ roadie from way back. He has loads of loyal customers that rely on his skills and knowledge to keep their sub 7kg dream machine’s at the front of the pack. Muchas gracias Nico.

John Smith adds his thirty plus years of BMX to the mix and we have most of your sporting bikes covered. When he's not haunting one of the local coffee shops he is super involved with the BMX club and the new big race track under construction in Romanes Drive. I do make fun of his small wheels and lack of gears but seriously, BMX is getting very high-tech too at the moment, with the winners buying speed with lighter bikes and parts. Come in and meet John if you or your kids are interested in this growth sport.

And back to mountain bikes...
Remember we have the skills to really sort out your mountain bikes with twenty years experience, all the latest parts and know-how.

Mountain bikes are the fastest changing style of bikes with new technology every few months. I have to check rumour websites and suppliers daily so that I can pick the future trends. (Hey it’s a hard job but someone’s gotta do it). I was riding a 650b (27.5in) bike a full year before the mainstream ones were even designed. If I've just lost you then it's probably time you came in to Revolution Bikes for a little chat!

So yeah we do a lot of research so you don’t have to. If there's something bike-related that you just have to know, don't be shy, just come in and ask.

8 NEW BRANDS
OMG    check them out!!!

New brands

One of the pleasures of being an independent bike shop owner is my freedom to select our own stock from which ever suppliers and brands have the goodies.

Being independent means I can make my own decisions without some pencil pusher in Auckland telling me what I should be selling.

Makes sense, after all it's us with our feet on the ground that have the feel for the local market. When we predicted the phenomenal growth of pathway bikes well before it happened we were laughed out of town by at least one Auckland based supplier - who was proved and still can't supply the demand. Their loss, we just fished around and found something better.

Sometimes being independent means we can grab a deal on last-of-run items.

Sometimes it means we can buy in exactly the right bikes for our terrain and our clients.

And sometimes, it means I can go all-out on a massive shopping spree and introduce EIGHT NEW BIKE BRANDS to you guys. Eight! Check them out!

Te Mata Peak - do dreams come true?
Cycle tourists love the Trails
Cycle Tourist alert!

So, what's this we are hearing about a cycle trail circuiting Te Mata Peak? Is it possible that local peeps and cycle tourists could finally get to ride a stunningly scenic off-road trail from the Village, around the mountain, and back home again?

From what we've heard lately it seems a strong possibility. Certain landowners have been approached regarding access, and many seem agreeable. Of course there will always be some stick-in-the-mud who holds up the process, but on the whole things are looking up. No pun intended.

My new pal, Mondraker

Complimentary 6 week service

We have a policy of giving each geared bike that we sell a complimentary service in it's first 6 weeks of riding.

This service is necessary as new cables can loosen and relax, which makes changing gears difficult. We also check for any parts that are loose, which if left unattended may cause undue wear and tear on your bike.

You don't need to wait for a reminder  - if your new bike starts misbehaving please bring it back to us as soon as you can and we will give it a proper seeing-to.

Happy trails everyone!
