Le Tour! Won by an Australian Subscriber! We just can't decide whether we should be basking in the shared glory - or whether we're ever-so-slightly green with envy!

Cadel Evans is now to be considered one of 'the most complete' riders of our generation, having previously won two Mountain Bike World Cup titles before turning to road cycling and eventually winning the world's most prestigious cycling event. What do we find most fascinating about his story? Cadel's journey started as a kid with a BMX.

BMX has only recently been recognised in New Zealand as a 'feeder' sport for mountain biking, road and track. I can imagine someone at BikeNZ will be jumping up and down shouting 'I TOLD YOU SO!"

Overheard on Twitter: "I just heard a MTBer won the Tour de France on 29in wheels - might have to test those things out!"

Le Tour lives on... with Lapierre Bikes

Lapierre Bikes
Sporty Lapierre on Sale!

Feeling all inspired by Le Tour?

Afraid the Post-Tour-Blues are about to strike?

Ease the comedown by getting up close and personal with our new top tier brand Lapierre, as seen at Le Tour de France.

Lapierre road bikes are included along with loads of other road bikes, mountain bikes and kid's bikes in our BIG WINTER BIKE SALE - but the sale finishes this weekend so get your skates on!

Let's welcome 100+ new friends with a competition!

Welcome newbies! We do like to keep in touch with bike riders in the Bay and our Always Interesting email list is growing at a fair old pace, with over 100 people receiving this email for the first time today!  Everyone who receives our Always Interesting Emails automatically gets chances to win prizes, gift vouchers and other goodies.

So what is currently on the prize table? These awesome merino cycling pants, that's what! Valued at $199.95, and yes made by the awesome folk at Icebreaker (from NZ merino combined with lycra), they are the below the knee riding companion that will save your legs from hypothermia out there!

Women's Icebreaker 3/4 pants
Check 'em out - the girly ones are pictured but don't worry lads, they also come in a guys fit, (same colour - black!) with a differently molded chamois to suit (no explanation necessary I hope).

Of course they also go nicely with the rest of the Icebreaker cycling wear range, which co-incidentally has a special deal on: Buy one Icebreaker piece and get 40% OFF a second item. Selling fast. Stock up now. (Singlets, gloves and socks ARE included in this promo). Good luck everyone...

Madd Scooters - are you mad enough?

With the scooter craze looking set to stay, the local kids have been busting a gut to get hold of the hottest brand, Madd Scooters. Wouldn't ya know, the first shipment of the brand sold out in our shop and all over New Zealand and we literally had to start a waiting list for the next shipment. (For some reason this makes me think of ration coupons and queing for fish 'n' chips on a Friday night).

Anyhoo, the second shipment has landed and we have, hot off the dock, all four scooter models back in stock and now on display in a range of colours. Complete of course, with a steady stream of slightly breathless teenage lads coming to check them out.

The shop has had a refreshing change of layout, by Hilton and the boys on some of those rainy days we had recently. Suddenly we have a whole clothing department at the front of the store! It has a nice spacious feel, just right for browsing around.

The bikes are now neatly rearranged against the opposite wall.

This weekend Hilton is heading down to the Mountain Bike Summit in Christchurch as a representative of the HB Mountain Bike Club and part of his ongoing involvement with mountain biking in New Zealand. He'll be catching up with old friends who share his passion for mountain biking and discussing the future of the sport and development of the clubs and tracks in New Zealand. No doubt there will be a ride somewhere along the way too...

A big thanks to our trusty team (Nick, Dan and Kurt) who will be manning the shop this weekend.
