RideWise partners with the Brain Injury Alliance (BIA) to teach pedestrian and bike safety and safe driving to older adults at the Bridgewater Wellness Center 

Team members from RideWise and BIA gave an engaging presentation on bicycle, pedestrian, and driving safety to promote safety and mobility for older adults during Older Driver Safety Awareness Week (December 1st to the 5th). The goal was to address age-related changes that can impact safe driving and mobility for older adults. 

RideWise partners with Pops Bike Shop to spread holiday cheer and e-bike safety awareness.  

Santa Claus came to visit downtown Somerville and partnered with RideWise to teach about e-bike safety. 

 

In response to growing safety concerns, we partnered with Pops Bike Shop to educate and encourage smart e-bike buying and safe riding.

Aside from this month being about celebrating the holidays, this month is also a reminder about the importance of safety when shopping for and handling Christmas toys and gifts.

 

Make sure you read labels and instructions carefully and are aware of the potential dangers of certain toys and gifts. 

 

Sixteen of Somerset County's towns are stepping up patrols through New Year's Day to get impaired drivers off the roads.

 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in December 2023,1,038 people died from drunk driving traffic crashes. From 2019 to 2023, the NHTSA recorded more than 4,391 deaths in drunk driving traffic crashes during the month of December. 

 

Whether you're driving, riding, or hosting, use the tips from the National Traffic Safety Administration to keep you and others safe during this high- traffic time:

• Plan for a sober ride home and if you need to, designate someone to hold you accountable.
• If you choose to drink, don't drive impaired. Call a sober friend, rideshare or taxi, or take public transportation to get home safely.
• If you're hosting and see someone who is about to drive impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely-- it will be the greatest gift you ever give them.
