When thinking about starting off the new year right, most people tend to focus on improving eating habits or exercising more and so it may surprise some of you to find out that redesigning or simply refreshing areas of your home that you spend a lot of time in can be just as important to your well-being. The spaces in which we live have a profound affect on our moods and creativity, and beautiful spaces have the ability to inspire and give you a sense of belonging. Redesigned rooms literally make a house feel like a home.

Over the years I have repeatedly received this exact reaction from my clients: "Wow! I can't believe how much more this house feels like a home!" That is one of the greatest compliments I could ever hope to receive. When it comes to commercial spaces, you can choose what type of environment you want to create, whether it be one that promotes relaxtion (doctor's office or spa), a luxurious feeling of being pampered (five star fine dining), or even an energetic one that encourages people to move in and out quickly (fast food restraunt).

I am consistently amazed at how little thought some business establishments put into their work environment, and the lack of understanding they have on how that envoronment impacts their business, both positively and negatively. There is typically a huge return on investment when it comes to commercial spaces that are properly space-planned and designed. The returns can be seen both in employee satisfaction and in increased revenue.

In January we will share with you the before and after photos of some of our favorite projects, starting with this commercial space that holds a special place in my heart. When we found it, it was an empty box, but our plan was to make both a beautiful and function space in which to work. I think we succeeded on that front if I do say so myself. Feel free to stop in and visit us if you'd like to see it in person!

The other projects we will be sharing are residential homes that have seen major transformations, and we even have some video comments from the homeowners themselves talking about their experiences. We have found over the years that our clients do a much better job of explaining what we do for them and how we positively impact their life than we ever can.

During February we will be talking about some of the major trends we are seeing for 2017, including color trends, design trends and even window covering trends. Many people are not aware that things like the economy and the state of the world in general have a huge impact on both fashion and interior design trends, and are not just random ideas pulled from thin air.

The blinds that were originally in our office were low-grade, run-of-the-mill black vinyl mini blinds, complete with bent slats and long dangling cords. That is definitely not our style, and they had to go! In their place, we decided to do simple wood blinds with larger slats that complimented the long windows much better than the mini blinds. For our front meeting area we wanted to create a little more drama and make a bigger impact, so we decided to go with custom-made sheer drapery panels and Hunter Douglas roller shades with Powerview motorization. The end result is like night and day!

"Twelfth night officially starts the Carnival Season in New Orleans, while Mardi Gras Day, or Fat Tuesday, is the traditional day for fun and feasting, or "The Farewell to the Flesh"! This final celebration culminates with the start of Lenten fasting on Ash Wednesday. The following recipe is for a traditional savory cheese cake of crawfish and andouille sausage."

"Our Table California White Wine is a blend of 58% Chenin Blanc, 39% French Colombard and 3% Muscat. This wine has a very delicate nose of white flower fragrances such as daffodil and acacia, followed by grapefruit, lime and lemon aromas. A pronounced minerality completes this aromatic profile. There is a soft, round sweetness in the attack with plenty of citrus aromas. This blend brings a round mouthfeel that is pleasant and compact with a short to medium body.

This Table White Wine can be enjoyed with composed salads, grilled chicken, spicy Asian food or a seafood platter. Semi-soft cheeses such as Monterey Jack, Cheddar or Swiss will also pair well with this wine. Try it with the featured recipe: Crawfish and Andouille Sausage Cheese Cakes

We are proud to be a sponser for non-profit organization, The Refuge. The Refuge will be a place of healing on 50 acres outside of Austin, for girls rescued from sex trafficking in the United States. Believe it or not, girls and boys right here in Austin are being robbed of innocence, security and happiness. The Refuge will shine a bright light on the dark world of sex trafficking and we are happy to support their mission. In October of 2016 they officially broke ground on the construction of the facility and we know that all are very eager to see it completed and serving its purpose of rescue and healing for these children. We invite you to watch the video below to hear more about the Refuge and their mission from Founder and Executive Director Brooke Crowder. We are honored to know Brooke and to help her and her team with their cause.

The Refuge has been featured multiple times in the media as of late, as well as in numerous print articles that have been featured in places like the Austin American Statesman. Please visit their website at therefugeaustin.org to learn more about this amazing organization and how you can get involved.
