It's the beginning of a new year, and in the design world that means we have been hearing about all of the upcoming trends predicted for 2018. During the month of January, we will be sharing some of these color trends, drapery trends and more on our blog. If you are not already following us, sign up today to get the most up-to-date infornation on what is happening with interior design.

Then in February, back by popular demand, is "New Year, New Space," our annual before and after series. Everyone just seems to love watching the transformation from caterpillar into beautiful butterfly, and we love it because it speaks to the heart of what we do and why we do it. It may be a bit of extreme thinking, but we believe that a beautiful home environment has the power to affect your peace, well-being, and even nurture relationships with family and friends. Many of our clients have indicated that, prior to working with us on their home, they never felt quite right in certain spaces and really never had the desire to invite friends over to hang out. Once their home feels right, they find that they are entertaining on a regular basis or that they would rather be at home than even on vacation.

One of our long-time clients, Marisa, contacted us this past fall to transform her family room area. They were about to add a pool to their backyard, and she wanted the space closest to the outdoor living area and pool to have a bit of a tropical flair to it, but without going overboard or getting too theme-y about it. I think we certainly fulfilled her request with this vibrant turquoise and green design.

BEFORE

AFTER

Marisa has worked with us through her house a room or two at a time over the years. We love working with our clients in this manner since we get to see them on a regular basis and maintain that connection. Whether you are building and need help with a whole house of furnishings or if you would rather work with some of the things you have and take your space up a notch we would love to help you. Sign up to follow our blog to see more photos from this space and to hear Marisa's video testimony about her experience with this particular project.

Shortly after the first of the year we will be unveiling a new website and blog, and if part of your New Years Resolution is to live in a home that you love, don't hesitate to call us today. We are booking out projects right now through the spring season.

Upholstery work is not inexpensive, and yet when you have a high quality chair like this Norwalk chair belonging to our client Marisa, it makes sense to reupholster it rather than purchase a new one. She personally loves this chair and reupholstering it allows us to customize the fabric to work well with the rest of the space, whereas to purchase a chair new of this same quality would actually still be more expensive. Also, as most of you know, since I am certified in green design I always prefer to reupholster pieces that are worth keeping to avoid having perfectly good pieces possibly end up in a landfill and allow them to service a household for at least another decade (if not more). The beauty of purchasing quality furniture in classic frame styles is that you can literally keep the pieces forever. As you can tell from this before and after our talented upholsterer makes this chair and ottoman used in our featured room look and - more importantly - feel like new. When needed, adding a little extra down or new Dacron to the cushions brings them back to their original, if not better, loft.

In the spirit of Marisa's tropical-inspired family room, we thought a shrimp recipe was in order. This meal is good both in the winter or summer, and is also a fantastic party dish.

We often have our staff Christmas party at our house. We love to have a bonfire out back and just relax and hang out for the night. When Lindsay left this summer to pursue her dream of becoming a chiropractor, Renee and I made the decision to not replace her postion until early 2018. Since that meant that this year's Christmas party was bascially just the two of us and our husbands, we decided to make the beautiful drive out 1826 to visit the Duchman Family Winery as our featured winery for the month, and then strolled next door to have dinner at Trattoria Lisina.

This winery uses 100% Texas grapes in all of their wines. Through our winery visits we have noticed that some Texas wineries are not such purists when it comes to their grapes. They have been known to make wine here but blend in California grapes or grapes from other regions, so it is always a fun experience to have a truly authentic Texas wine.

As a pairing to our Seaside Shrimp with Remoulade Sauce, we are featuring the Duchman's 2015 Vermentino, which has "Citrus, floral notes and pitch perfect acidity." If I'm being completely honest, personally I have enjoyed some of the wines at other wineries we have visited more, but everyone has a different palette (Renee's favorite was the super-sweet 2014 Aglianico, which is very much a dessert wine). The Duchman must be doing something right since they have their fair share of awards. It is definitely worth visiting, no matter what your taste in wine is, even just for the lovely drive and the fun experience.

Tommy Hollahan was born and raised in Austin, TX, so he is a proud Native Austinite! After spending a few years in College Station, TX attending Texas A&M University, he got back to his roots in beautiful Austin, TX. The IT Industry is where he got his professional start before being introduced to the mortgage business. Since February 2005, Tommy has had the pleasure of working with many families and individuals to help them move into their very first homes, save money on their mortgage payments or restructure their mortgage financing to achieve their goals, or simply get answers to their mortgage financing questions.

Each and every opportunity presents a different challenge, so keeping up with loan guidelines and regulatory compliance is imperative so that he can provide the best advice on just how to structure a mortgage loan for each and every client. He takes great care to understand each borrower and their unique situation and needs.

Tommy and his wife, Kim, enjoy all that Austin, TX has to offer, from outdoor activities such as playing soccer or golf, running with their dogs, and biking on the trails or roads around town to catching a good band at Austin City Limits, ACL Fest, SXSW, or any other of the numerous music venues. He is also very thankful for the support of his family, friends, and business associates throughout his life and career. It is through their business and referrals that he has enjoyed success in the mortgage industry.

Tommy and Home Source Mortgage look forward to the opportunity to earn YOUR business!

"Very big thanks for all your hard work, time & effort to put this beautiful room together! We love it, and spent a lot of time in it over the past few days. It’s so comfortable too! When my daughter Kristen & her husband saw it, their mouths dropped open. After sitting in it for awhile, Kristen said “I’ll take the whole thing! Just wrap it up and deliver it please.” That’s quite a compliment." - Marisa
We would like to thank Alicia Marie with PeopleBiz and Jenkins Custom Homes for their referrals over the last two months. No other compliment compares to that of a referral.
