Spotlight on Hitting the Trail
Fall is one of the best seasons to hang out outside in Columbia and there are dozens of ways to enjoy fresh air near campus! A few favorites:
-
The Three Rivers Greenway offers scenic river views and miles of paved trails.
-
Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve is a peaceful trail with a dose of history: the bricks from the Horseshoe were excavated there!
-
Harbison Forest has the perfect pine-straw cushioned, hilly terrain for an invigorating trail run.
-
The Palmetto Trail spans almost the entire state, from mountains to sea-- it even runs through downtown Columbia!
- And of course there's
Congaree National Park, the largest intact expanse of old growth bottomland hardwood forest remaining in the southeastern United States.
If you plan to stay outside a while,
check out some gear from Outdoor Rec! They have tents, backpacks, stoves, cook sets, headlamps, sleeping bags and pads, canoes, car-top carriers, and more for just a few bucks a weekend.
